Ayao Komatsu is a Japanese motorsport executive and engineer who serves as the team principal for the Haas F1 team. He was born on January 28, 1976, in Tokyo, Japan. His schooling was in Tokyo before he moved to the United Kingdom for higher studies. Komatsu pursued a bachelor’s degree in automotive engineering at Loughborough University.

He was placed at Lotus Engineering in Norfolk. In 1999, he graduated with a PhD degree in vehicle dynamics and control and worked in the British F3 Championship. His first full-time job as a motorsport engineer started in 2003, while working for the BAR racing team. From 2006 to 2011, he worked as a performance engineer at the Renault F1 team.

For the 2025 season, Laura Mueller has been promoted to race engineer for Esteban Ocon. She previously worked as a performance engineer at the Haas F1 team. Laura is one of the first female race engineers in F1 history. Ronan O’Hare serves as the race engineer for Oliver Bearman.

Haas F1 Team Technical Director

Andrea De Zordo is the current technical director of the Haas F1 Team for the 2025 season. He was born in Italy and studied mechanical engineering at the University of Bologna. He stepped into the technical director role while working for years as chief designer for Ferrari and McLaren.

Haas F1 Team Chief Mechanic

Toby Brown is the current chief mechanic for the Haas F1 team. According to his LinkedIn profile, he started his career as an assembly technician in IndyCar racing. Then later moved to the Williams F1 team in 2002. Later, he was placed as a senior mechanic with Toyota Motorsport from 2013 to 2015.

Haas has restructured its trackside engineering and mechanical staff for 2025, promoting several members internally. These members are responsible for the design and repair of the F1 car for every race. Most experienced mechanics join as a pit stop crew.
