Ayao Komatsu is a Japanese race engineer and motorsport executive. He has been serving as the team principal of the Haas F1 Racing Team since January 2024. He was born on January 28, 1976, in Tokyo, Japan. He completed his schooling in Tokyo, and then at the age of 19, he left for England for higher studies. In 1995, he was admitted to Loughborough University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in automotive engineering. After completing his graduation, he went on to opt for a PhD degree in vehicle dynamics and control in 2003.

During his tenure, he was placed as a tyre engineer for British American Racing. After working for two years, Komatsu had a remarkable career spark at Renault in 2006 to work as a performance engineer. He worked for ten straight years with Renault and pivoted himself as a chief race engineer at Lotus before joining Haas in 2016. His leadership vision and academic background led him to be the trackside engineer for the Haas F1 team. Later on, he was appointed as the team principal for the Haas F1 team, replacing Steiner for the 2024 F1 season.
