George Russell is a Formula 1 racing driver from Britain. He is currently driving for the Mercedes Petronas AMG Formula 1 team for the 2025 season. Born and raised in King’s Lynn in 1998, Russell started karting at age seven. He achieved his first major at the Super 1 National Kart Championship in 2007. This win came after a year when he joined karting in his early days. After graduating from karting, he went on to win the 2014 BRDC F4 Championship, the 2017 GP3 Series, and the 2018 FIA Formula 2 Championship. All these wins he has won in his rookie season showcase his exceptional racing skills and talent.

Following his F2 rookie season in 2015, Russell got his first experience in an F1 car when he tested the McLaren MP4 26 at Silverstone. He performed decently, and finally, he made his F1 debut for Williams Racing in 2019. In 2025, he will be in his seventh F1 season, where he won three F1 Grand Prix races, nineteen podiums, and five pole positions.

George Russell’s Contract

George Russell is currently in the final year of his Mercedes contract. Russell’s F1 contract will come to an end in 2025, according to Sky Sports F1. However, he has performed very well for the 2025 season. Russell has scored four podium finishes across eight races. Despite having a good start, his contract renewal will depend on his current F1 performances.

Mercedes has not yet announced a contract extension for George Russell. However, according to Motorsport Week reports, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff hints that a new contract extension deal might be possible for George Russell, with a new salary as per the agreement for the driver. This contract could be extended for two years, with the option for Russell to remain a member of the Silver Arrows until 2028.

George Russell’s Salary

George Russell’s salary is estimated to be about $15 million for driving for the Mercedes Petronas AMG F1 team for the 2025 season, according to Spotrac. His current contract is coming to an end in 2025. Russell could sign a new contract extension soon before the season ends, according to Autosport.

This new contract is expected to increase Russell's current remuneration of around $30 million per season. Russell impressed Toto Wolff with a good start, finishing four times on the podium in 2025.
