Germany FIFA World Cup 2022 Preview

Germany have been drawn into Group E alongside Spain, Costa Rica, and Japan. Being drawn in the same group as Spain does make things harder for Germany but they should still make it out of their group. Germany had a terrible showing at the 2018 FIFA World Cup but ever since Hansi Flick has been appointed they have been undefeated.

Hansi Flick is a very good addition to Germany’s squad and the highly coveted manager is expected to do really well with the current Germany squad. The likes of Brazil, Argentina, and France are favorites to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup but in a game of football, anything can happen and Germany is not a team you can write off easily.

They are expected to do well in the 2022 World Cup and although they are not the favorites to win it, they are expected to progress till a much later stage than that they did in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Who Is Germany’s Head Coach?

Germany’s head coach is Hansi Flick. Hansi Flick was appointed as the head coach after the EUROS competition which took place in 2021. Germany parted ways with Joachim Low after 16 years of him being the head coach. Hansi Flick was Low’s assistant in the German international team from 2006 till 2014.

Germany have not participated in any major tournaments since Hansi Flick was appointed as the head coach and Germany fans will be very excited to see how the new coach does in his 1st FIFA World Cup. Germany’s previous World Cup campaign was one to forget. They were knocked out in the group stages after a bottom table finish owing to losses against Mexico and South Korea. They will certainly hope to perform much better in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Germany’s Strengths And Weaknesses

Germany have called up new players as well as appointed a new coach to improve on their poor performance in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Hansi Flick was appointed as the new manager in 2021 and in his 10 game tenure as the manager is still undefeated. Germany also have youngsters like Jamal Musiala and Karim Adeyemi breaking into the squad.

These players have performed really well for their individual clubs and will hope to replicate this form for their international team. Germany are drawn in the same group as Spain which makes things a little tougher for them but they are expected to still make it out of Group E and qualify for the knockout stages. One of the weaknesses Germany has is the left-back position. None of Raum, Gunter, or Hofmann are known for playing left-back.

The one option Germany has is of playing Thilo Kehrer at left-back, but he does not exactly inspire confidence and this can prove to be a major flaw in Germany’s squad.
