The 21-year-old professional golfer, Lucy Li, is the youngest golfer on the U.S. Women's Amateur, at the age of 10, and the U.S. Women's Open, at the age of 11, qualifying lists. She was born on October 1, 2002, and turned professional in 2019, after winning the 2016 Junior PGA Championship and the 2017 PING Invitational and Rolex Tournament of Champions.

She is the youngest player to ever advance to match play in the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links, having qualified as the second-youngest qualifier. In Augusta, Georgia, Li won an age group at the first-ever Masters Drive, Chip, and Putt Championship.

She represented the U.S. at the 2016 and 2018 Junior Ryder Cup, the 2017 and 2019 Junior Solheim Cup, and the 2018 Curtis Cup, winning all. After turning professional at the age of 17, she initially played on the Epson Tour, winning twice in 2022, after which she earned her LPGA Tour card for 2023.

In her rookie season, she participated in 21 events with a scoring average of 72.46. Most recently, she played at the Blue Bay LPGA in March 2024, finishing with a score of 279, under 9, tying for 10th place.

What is the nationality of Lucy Li?

Lucy Li's nationality is American. She was born in Stanford, California, on October 1, 2002.

Warren Li, Lucy's father, works as a stockbroker and computer consultant in the San Francisco Bay Area. Amy Zeng, her mother, used to work for Hewlett-Packard. Born and reared in China, Warren and Amy immigrated to the US from Australia in 1998. Amy holds a Master's degree in computer science, whereas Warren holds a Ph.D.

Lucy Li’s Early Life

At the age of four, Li began platform diving at 10 meters (32.8 feet) after taking diving classes at Stanford University and was involved in music and gymnastics as well. However, when she did actually begin playing golf, there were two different narratives.

One says that she started taking lessons from her mother and aunt when she was around 4 or 5 years old at Mariners Point Golf Center. The other account says that she picked up the game at the age of seven while watching her older brother Luke, a student at Princeton University, smash balls at a driving range.

Although Li prefers to narrate the latter tale, head pro at Mariners Point, Joby Ross, has stated that when Li was around 3 or 4 years old, she was rather talkative about her love of the game and would even throw fits if asked to leave.

When she was seven years old, her parents made plans for her to meet Jim McLean at Doral. Jim McLean is a coach and has also worked with Lexi Thompson, Cristie Kerr, Keegan Bradley, and Erik Compton.

After that, the family arranged for her aunt to house them for the summer. Then McLean started collaborating with her in 2014 and San Jose's Cinnabar Hills became Li's practice ground. Li is homeschooled, and during her months in Florida, she completes some of her schoolwork on her own.
