Like other golf players, Mackenzie has also been passionate about playing golf since his younger age. During his amateur days, Mackenzie was the number one Canadian Amateur in 2011. Additionally, he also went on to win the 2011 and 2012 Canadian Amateur Championship and was also a member of Team Canada's National Squad in 2008, 2011, and 2012.
After a much more successful amateur career, Mackenzie turned professional in the year 2012 and started out by participating in the eGolf Professional Tour and PGA Tour Canada. Talking about his first-ever win in his professional days, Mackenzie won the Cape Breton Celtic Classic on PGA Tour Canada in 2013. As of August 2023, Mackenzie has been ranked number 39 in the overall ranking list and has had four professional wins overall.
