Who won the Open in the year 2022?
In 2022, Cameron Smith won the Open. The 28-year-old finished with an eight-under, bogey-free round with five straight birdies at the halfway mark and another on hole 18. This performance earned him the A$3.7 million triumph.
In the fourth round, when he finished third at 18-under, McIlroy likewise played without making a bogey, but his putting was poor, as only two of his birdie tries were successful. According to ESPN, Cameron Smith, as of 2023, is the only golfer in the last 20 years who has managed to achieve this remarkable feat of having birdied the first five holes on the back nine during the last and final round of a major. At the same time, Cameron also broke Tiger Woods' 2000 St. Andrews of having the lowest rounds of the Open history and set a brand new record for the final round, which Brian Harman hasn't been able to beat.
