The Travelers Championship is a big-name golf tournament held each year in Cromwell, Connecticut. Played at TPC River Highlands since 1984, it's known for being a favourite among players, winning the Players Choice Award two years in a row.

Originally called the Insurance City Open in 1952, it's gone through a few name changes. It's been a popular event for decades, even attracting entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. to play in the Pro-Ams back in the day.

The tournament consistently draws a huge crowd, ranking second only to the Waste Management Phoenix Open in terms of attendance on the PGA Tour. While attendance has fluctuated over the years, it remains a major crowd-pleaser.

What is the format for the Travelers Championship?

The Travelers Championship format follows the standard format for most PGA Tour events:

Stroke Play: This is the most common format in professional golf, where golfers compete by accumulating the fewest strokes over the entire course of the tournament. The golfer with the lowest total score at the end wins.

Four rounds: The Travelers Championship is a four-day tournament, with golfers playing 18 holes each day. After each round, a cut is made to the field, eliminating players with high scores to ensure a manageable number compete in the final rounds.

No Playoffs: Unless there's a tie for first place after the 72nd hole, there is no playoff at the Travelers Championship. In the case of a tie, a sudden-death playoff would be implemented using an extra-hole format until a winner is determined.
