The BMW PGA Championship was founded in 1955 as the British PGA Championship before being sponsored by the German automaker BMW in 2007.

For decades, the tournament has been held annually at the iconic Wentworth Club in Surrey, England, with the club's renowned West Course serving as the venue. The BMW PGA is considered one of the premier events on the DP World Tour calendar, offering 64 world ranking points to the winner - the most of any tournament on the tour.

In 2021, American Billy Horschel became only the second player from the States to win the event, after Arnold Palmer's victory in 1975. In 2019, the tournament was moved from its traditional May slot to September as part of a revamp of the golfing calendar.

Wentworth Club Course Layout

The Wentworth West Course is a par 72 layout that measures 6,202 yards from the gold tees. The course was designed by architect Howard Maurer and is challenging yet rewarding for golfers.

The greens are made of Velvet Bent grass and average 6,000 square feet in size. They are strategically shaped and angled to provide a strong test, with some greens being very receptive to approach shots while others are small and severely contoured.

There are over 60 bunkers placed throughout the West Course. Water hazards also come into play on several holes, including the par 3 8th and 17th holes, which share a large lake.

A short par 3 with a bunker guarding the front of the green. Club selection is important to avoid the sand.

Hole 3 (Par 4, 465 yards)

A long par 3 with a large green. Club selection is critical to avoid the bunkers surrounding the green.

11th (Par 4)

A good birdie opportunity with a generous fairway. However, three bunkers guard the green, demanding a precise approach shot.

12th (Par 5)

The longest hole on the course, this dogleg right requires a well-placed tee shot to avoid water hazards on the left and out-of-bounds on the right. The second shot needs to clear a ridge in the fairway, while bunkers protect the large green.
