Manchester United agree deal with Inter Milan for Ashley Young

Ashley Young

Manchester United have agreed to a deal with Inter Milan for the transfer of Ashley Young, Sky Sports reports. The Englishman is expected to be in Milan by the end of this week for a medical. It is believed that the Nerazzurri have agreed to pay United £1.5m plus add-ons.

Young’s future has been making news ever since it was reported that the Englishman was under the radar of Inter Milan. United did offer their current club captain a one-year extension in order to fend off interest from the Serie A side. However, Young turned down the offer, as he had his heart set on a move to Italy.

Arsenal negotiating with PSG for cut-price Layvin Kurzawa deal
Layvin Kurzawa

Arsenal are interested in PSG full-back Layvin Kurzawa and are in talks with the Ligue-1 side for a potential deal, according to the Evening Standard. The 27-year-old is in the final 6 months of his contract with the French champions and could be available for free in the summer. However, the Gunners believe that they can secure the player’s signature for a subsidized rate this January.

Mikel Arteta has been crippled with defensive injuries this season, especially in the left-back role and is currently missing both Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac due to injuries. As such, the Spaniard believes that Kurzawa will add value to his side and will help ease the pressure on 18-year-old Bukayo Saka, who is currently filling in at the left-back position.

Xavi confirms he rejected Barcelona’s offer to take over from Ernesto Valverde

Xavi

Xavi has confirmed that he rejected former club Barcelona’s proposal to replace Ernesto Valverde because the offer came too early in his career, Sky Sports reports. The current Al Sadd manager was given the chance to take charge of the Catalans last week and even met with Barcelona sporting director Eric Abidal and chief executive Oscar Grau.

However, the Spaniard believed that it was not the right time in his career to take up the role and as a result, politely turned down the offer. The Barcelona hierarchy moved on to Quique Setien, who has since taken charge of the Blaugrana. Xavi has not ruled out a return to the Camp Nou, though, reiterating that it is his dream to manage Barcelona one day.

Mikel Arteta plans to keep Shkodran Mustafi at the club amid concerns over a growing injury list

Shkodran Mustafi

Mikel Arteta has no intention of letting Shkodran Mustafi leave this month, despite the player registering just one start in the Premier League this season, Sky Sports reports. Arsenal are currently without Callum Chambers for the rest of the season, which means Mustafi is one of only 4 fit central defenders available for the Gunners right now.

As such, the Spaniard is reluctant to let Mustafi leave, and is even offering the player a fresh start. The German has been poor for the Gunners, but Arteta is ready to give him a chance to impress once again. The Spaniard has worked with Mustafi earlier during the German defender’s short tenure with Everton and thinks the player could be a good back-up option at the center-back position for the Gunners.

Bruno Fernandes agrees to personal terms with Manchester United
Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes has agreed to personal terms with Manchester United, and his move will depend on the Red Devils and Sporting Lisbon agreeing to a transfer fee, the Telegraph reports. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking forward to making him his 4th signing for the club, but all that depends on whether the two clubs can match their valuation of the player.

Manchester United value the player at £50m, but Sporting believe that Fernandes warrants a transfer fee of £68m. However, the Portuguese side are under financial constraints, which could force their hands in the negotiation table. Sporting also want Marcos Rojo as a part of the deal, but Solskjaer is reluctant to allow any player to leave unless United can get a replacement within this month.

Mauricio Pochettino hints at a return to the Premier League

Mauricio Pochettino

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that he could return to the Premier League in the future, Sky Sports reports. Speaking to LaLiga TV, the Argentinean has revealed that his next managerial project could unfold either in England or in Spain because he feels they are the two best leagues in the world.

Pochettino’s association with Tottenham ended in November and he was among the candidates linked to the vacant position at the La Liga
champions Barcelona before the appointment of Quique Setien. The Argentinean also revealed that he is assessing his options at the moment.

Arsenal will not let Eddie Nketiah leave on loan this month
Mikel Arteta

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah will not be sent out on loan this month despite interest from a host of clubs, Sky Sports reports. The youngster has drawn interest from Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City, who want him on loan for the rest of the season. However, it is understood that Mikel Arteta is reluctant to let Nketiah leave this month.

The 20-year-old scored 5 goals from 19 appearances while on at Leeds during the first half of the season. He has appeared 19 times for the Gunners so far since making his debut in September 2017 in the Europa League. He was expected to continue his development while on loan for the second half of the season, however, after talks with the current Arsenal head coach, he is set to stay at Arsenal right now.

Paul Pogba could leave Manchester United in the summer

Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba is most likely to leave Manchester United in the summer, according to Sky Sports. The Frenchman is still wanted by both Real Madrid and Juventus, however, Pogba would prefer a move to the Santiago Bernabeu himself. Despite that, Juventus are also hopeful that they can convince their former player to return to Turin.

A move in the winter is next to impossible because securing a replacement in such short notice will not suit Manchester United. Real Madrid wanted to sign Pogba last summer but were put off by the £150m price tag put on the player by the Red Devils. His current contract runs out in the summer of 2021, which means that United might be forced to lower their demands in the summer.
