Minecraft capes are a great way to customize your character and elytra model. Unlike Minecraft skins, capes are much rarer in the vanilla game, with minimal design options. However, this has changed with the game's 15th anniversary. On May 17, 2024, the team at Mojang Studios celebrated Minecraft's 15 years of success.

To give back to the audience that has allowed this simple yet diverse sandbox game to reach this milestone, they decided to provide players with an opportunity to get three new capes for free.

In this article, we will learn about the history of Minecraft capes and how this cosmetic item went from being uncommon to widely available with several designs.

Although everyone with an original copy of the game has the option to equip capes, the capes themselves are rare items, usually made available only occasionally during events.

Even after 15 years since the game's release, there are only a handful of capes in the game. However, most can no longer be obtained as they were part of events such as Minecon, where you had to either buy tickets to the event or be present to get one.

With the 15th anniversary, you can complete a few tasks from your desk and acquire three free capes: a purple heart cape (Twitch cape), a TikTok cape, and a 15th anniversary cape (Green creeper cape).

During this period, Minecraft boasts one of its highest regular player bases ever. As a result, the free capes are being redeemed by more players than ever before, making them much more common than the other ones that were occasionally given away in the past.

The Twitch and TikTok capes can be obtained by consuming content on their respective platforms. On Twitch, you need to watch a Minecraft streamer who is either a Twitch Partner or has an Affiliate channel for at least 15 minutes.

On TikTok, you need to watch live streams of popular streamers for a couple of minutes after engaging in the live chat. Many claim that typing the game's title in the comments helps in the process.

Lastly, the creeper cape, arguably the most iconic of the three, can be obtained directly from the game's website by logging in with a Microsoft account and navigating to the code redeem page for the cape.

Once the code is obtained, enter it on the game's webpage to redeem the item for your account.

The Twitch cape codes are being given out from May 15, 2024, to May 31, 2024, and the codes for the TikTok cape are available from May 18, 2024, to June 18, 2024. These two capes have been released for the Bedrock Edition, and the same items will be made available for the Java Edition on July 8, 2024.
