Dune Awakening: How to get Steel

Dune Awakening How to get steel
Steel is an important mid-game resource in Dune Awakening, and it will unlock some of the better farming resources. Here's how to get it (Image via Funcom)

Dune Awakening will have you farming a wealth of resources, including Steel. However, unlike Copper and Iron, you can’t simply farm this in the wild; well, not technically. There are places you can get Steel Ingots, with a little bit of luck and effort. Otherwise, you need to combine a few resources to put it together, which can feel frustrating. However, there are positives, like the Buggy, and the incredible mining laser you can put on it. It’s a major game-changer.

Once you’ve gone beyond Hagga Basin and into Vermillius Gap, you can start working toward Steel in Dune Awakening. If you’re struggling, here’s how you can start the farming process, and get plenty of Steel.

How to farm Steel in Dune Awakening

With 50 x Water, 4 x Carbon Ore, and 1 x Iron Ingot, you can craft Steel in Dune Awakening. You don’t even need a fancier Ore Refinery, the regular one will do just fine. If you want large amounts of Carbon Ore, you need to head to the Jabal Eifrit region, with the Cutteray Mk2.

However, while you’re in East and West Vermillius Gap, there are still ways to start slowly farming some Steel in Dune Awakening. There are Ironworks bases in Vermillius Gap, which are also filled with enemies. These have Ore Refineries in them, and if you’re lucky, these could have Steel Ingots. I haven’t gotten lucky enough to see those in there yet, but from what I understand, it can happen.

A great place to farm Carbon Ore to make Steel Ingots is the rocky island north of The Hammer in East Vermillius Gap. However, what will make this so much easier, is using your first steel to craft a Buggy, and give it a Tier-4 mining laser, and buggy storage. You can use this to drive around those rocky islands, and farm huge piles of Carbon Ore.

The hardest part, quite frankly, is the water. You need plenty of water to make Steel Ore, so you either need to frequently kill enemies and bleed them out for water, or start storing it in Cisterns early, so you’re ready when it’s time to make Steel Ingots.
