If you didn’t start as a Trooper in Dune Awakening, you can still learn their skills; it just takes time, and some quests. Even Troopers themselves will have to go out of their way to complete specific quests to learn the advanced skills, but if you want to get started as any of the other classes, you can do so in Hagga Basin South. You might completely overlook the quest giver too, but you can find them in the Trading Post.
After completing the side quest Proving Grounds, you’ll be rewarded with the basic Trooper Skill Tree in Dune Awakening from this class trainer. This quest will take you across Hagga Basin South, defeating specific enemies lurking in caves, but we know who they are, and where you can find them.
How to unlock Basic Trooper Skills in Dune Awakening (Proving Ground)
When you’re ready, head to point 1 on the map below to begin the Basic Trooper skills unlock in Dune Awakening. Speak to Ghavouri, on the left side as you walk in, and ask for training. He needs you to kill three targets for him, out in Hagga Basin South. You can find those at points 2, 3, and 4 on the map below.

The quest will guide you to them as well, if you track the mission in your Journey section of the character screen. Each of these enemies is hiding in a moisture-locked cave, so poke a hole in it, and go in. You may have even been to these caves already while exploring, but unless you have this quest, the kills don’t count.
Be careful, because some of the caves may have mines laid out, but even as a low-level character, these fights are not difficult. Return to Ghavouri when you’ve done this, and he’ll reward you with the Trooper’s first-tier of skills in Dune Awakening. If you want something stronger, you need to travel to Arrakeen and speak to Kara Valk.
How to unlock Advanced Trooper Skills (Kara Valk quest chain)
When you have access to an Ornithopter, then it’s recommended you begin the Advanced Trooper quests in Dune Awakening. It takes quite a lot of flying, and you’re going to have to travel between Arrakeen, Harko, and then other regions to defeat specific enemies, so having access to flight via Ornithopter will make the quest list below so much faster to complete.
Speak with Kara Valk in Arrakeen when you’re ready, and you can pick up the first quest from her, Seeking Control by saying “Come on, trooper. It can’t be as bad as all that.” This quest only serves to win her trust, so you can begin the actual quest chain. Each quest unlocks more skills for you, including Trooper Capstones, and ultimately, a very nice Unique gun. Here is the quest list you’ll have to complete to get access to your Trooper Skills:
- Seeking Control (Earn Kara’s Trust)
- Regaining Control (Unlock Level 2 Trooper Skills)
- A Shot at Improving (Unlock Level 3 Trooper Skills)
- Master of Weapons (Unlocks a Trooper Capstone Skill)
- Surgical Strike (Unlocks a Trooper Capstone Skill)
- The Cleansing of Kara Valk (Advanced Trooper Training Available, Mendel’s Rattle Unique)

Seeking Control requires you to head to an area of Jabal Eifrit Al-gharb called The Sweep, north of Eastern Vermillius. To get as close to The Sweep as possible, enter Hagga Basin from the right; it would be 3 o’clock (fourth from the top, clockwise). Land on top of the base, get to the top room and interact with the book you find. This brings in two enemies to defeat. Kill them, loot the bodies for the Transmitters, and return to complete the quest.
Regaining Control is the next quest you get from Kara but unless you have a Handheld Scanner specifically, you cannot complete this quest. Otherwise, the quest won’t progress, even if you know where to go. Chat with Kara Valk a few times, and she’ll send you to the Black Market Trader in Harko Village for the next step of this Dune Awakening Trooper quest.
Unfortunately, the trader isn’t there. Head to the bar and pick the dialogue “A Kirana Brandy with a cidrit twist”. The next step will have you read a dead-drop ledger. Use the line once again, bring up the ledger in your dialogue choices to activate the next step. It’s time to travel to Jabal Eifrit.

Fly in to Hagga Basin again, at around 12 o’clock (top center). The map will show you the location, which is completely surrounded by quicksand. Once you arrive, you’ll need to use your scanner; it will reveal footprints heading north. The next location you want to head to is Mineral Extraction Facility #6. Go in, and towards the right, you should see Tuco’s body, hanging upside down. Once the quest is complete, return to Kara Valk.
When you’re ready to move on with Dune Awakening’s Trooper quests, pick up A Shot at Improving from Kara Valk. You need to go get a back alley doctor in Harko Village, named Kumari. She’s on the upper level of the map, after going up the stairs and walking back towards where you came in at. She’s easy to find.
However, Kumari needs you to do something for her, so the Dune Awakening Trooper quest marches on. Head to the Bartender for her, and use the line you used earlier. Next, you’re heading to Taqwa’s Watch in Oo’dham. You’re going to fly into Hagga Basin at 9 o’clock (fourth down, counter-clockwise).

When you arrive at Taqwa’s Watch, you need to kill Maas Kharet here, but there’s a chance you could be under-leveled, depending on when you decide to approach this quest. It can be dangerous, so pull safe, and drop a beacon, just in case.
Afterwards, return to Harko Village and speak with the Bartender, and once again, go speak with Doctor Kumari. She’ll give you medicine to bring back to Kara Valk, so do that, wrap up the quest, and get access to even more skills.
Master of Weapons is the next Dune Awakening quest in the Trooper line, and it will unlock one of the Capstone Skills. This one’s actually pretty simple. Now that you have some skills, it’s time to put them to use.
Specifically, you need to use Attractor Field, Assault Seeker, and Gravity Field three times out in Hagga Basin. Just enter the zone wherever you see fit and use these skills. Come back, and Kara Valk will give you one of your two Capstone skills.

Surgical Strike will also unlock a Capstone Skill for Dune Awakening Trooper players. You’re going to head to Khidr’s Shadow. This isn’t far from The Sweep, so go in the same way you did earlier, for Regaining Control. Fly into the region, and head west to reach Khidr’s Shadow.
This part’s pretty easy - kill Slavers until the quest updates. You’ll need to find the Shipping Manifest next. Head to the waypoint in Khdir’s Shadow, interact with the manifest then wrap the quest up with Kara Valk. Finally, when you’re ready, there’s The Cleansing of Kara Valk.
Speak to her to get it all started, like always. She needs transport to Harko Village, and it’s going to cost you 4,000 Solari. Go downstairs and talk to Campos Demari, and he’ll get it set up for you. Make sure to tell her the transportation is ready before leaving. Once again, fly in to Hagga Basin South at 3 o’clock, and find the waypoint. It’s a gigantic spire, so land, interact with it, and it’ll send you back to Khidr’s Shadow, which is nearby anyway.
Land on the roof of the building the quest marker takes you to, and take out the slavers and their boss. Take the package you get here back to Doctor Kumari in Harko, and speak with Kara Valk. This wraps up the Trooper quest chain in Dune Awakening.
It’s a lengthy quest chain, but all classes in the game have similar efforts that must be put in if you want to unlock as much power for them as possible. It’s likely that you’re going to complete most of this in the mid game, once you have access to flight, because otherwise, it’s going to be truly miserable travel going back and forth via the Thopter Lady at any of the Trading Posts.
