Dune Awakening: How to protect your base and vehicle when offline

PVP MMOs like Dune Awakening can feel dangerous; how can you possibly protect your base and vehicle when you aren’t in-game? It gives me flashbacks to games like Dark Ages of Camelot. Thankfully, it’s not that bad in Funcom’s survival MMO. For the most part, a good chunk of the game is PVE-only, so you don’t especially have to worry about players raiding you. You do have to worry about the elements, though.

Deeper into the game, such as the Deep Desert, you do have to worry about player incursions as well, which can be stressful. There is something you can do in Dune Awakening to give your base some level of protection. It’s not foolproof, but it will definitely help you survive.

How to protect your base in Dune Awakening when offline

As you build your starter base in Dune Awakening, you’ll get an important hint as to how you can protect your base, now and in the future. During locked progression, the game will guide you to build a Fuel-Powered Generator somewhere in your base. This is the most important way you can keep your base safe from sandstorm and raiders.

This can hold a certain amount of fuel cells, and each fuel cell takes care of about 15 minutes of real-world time. Your base’s shield isn’t infinite, though, but for PVE areas, you should have no trouble keeping it safe.

You can store up to 20 real-life days' worth of power in your Fuel-Powered Generator, and it will keep you safe from sandstorms without much of an issue. However, that does mean you’re going to need a lot of Fuel Cells, so if you plan on being away for a while, make sure you stock up.

If someone were to turn off the generator for your base, that would also turn off your shields and render your base vulnerable, so it may be wise to put it somewhere that isn’t visible. If you’re in a guild, you can also have people trade responsibilities so that the generator never runs out of power. This is also a great strategy for when you plan to be away for a few days.

Unfortunately, at this point in time, we haven’t uncovered any kind of turrets or base defenses that can automatically open fire on aggressive players. If we do, we’ll update this accordingly. Right now, your best bet is to have lots of power for your generator, to keep your holding safe.
