World of Warcraft: Dragonflight’s Magmorax is what some might call a “gear check.” If your raid group doesn’t have exceptional heals and DPS, you’re going to become overwhelmed and then defeated by this massive hydra. Thankfully, Magmorax doesn’t have complicated movement or abilities to deal with. However, if you want a Tier Helmet, you better be ready to work hard. This fight is a race against time, with lava puddles and the devastating Catastrophic Eruption ability.

Players will need to be ready to absorb some of those lava puddles so there will still be room to fight on for the Magmorax fight in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. As one of the final bosses of the Aberrus raid, it’s a fitting challenge for players. We’ll cover the abilities, general strategy, and changes for the Heroic difficulty as well.

When combating Magmorax in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, communication is just as important as dealing high dps/healing. Magma Puddles grow continually, and if you leave them alone, you’ll have nowhere to stand.

That means you’ll want to assign half of your raid to soak the even sets of Magma Puddles (Molten Spittle) while the rest soak the other puddles that spawn. You want to avoid having 10 stacks unless it means you’ll prevent a wipe.

Raid abilities

  • Molten Spittle: Random players get marked to receive a debuff. After 6 seconds, they explode and drop a Magma Puddle. Spread out to avoid sharing the damage, and drop the puddles behind the boss, near ranged players.
  • Igniting Roar: Raid-wide damage that applies a stack of Igniting Roar. Each stack deals more damage, and it doesn’t go away until the fight ends. This also triggers Lava Ejection, which shoots magma on the ground.
  • Magma Puddle: Molten Spittle/Lava Ejection create these. Standing in it makes it shrink but also stacks a Searing Heat debuff. If left alone, the magma spreads and grows. Avoid letting the boss stand on one, as that triggers Blazing Tantrum.
  • Overpowering Stomp: Raid-wide knockback that also deals damage. Position him in a spot that knocks you towards the center.
  • Blazing Breath: Turns towards a player and casts this. Move away from targeted area to avoid damage.

As you can see by Magmorax’s abilities, it’s more about dealing with a variety of annoying Magma Puddles. In addition, Igniting Roar constantly increases the amount of damage from this World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Aberrus raid encounter.

Your tanks should keep the boss on one side of the room, towards one of the corners. This is to prevent this WoW raid boss from stepping in lava. It’s also incredibly important to have players rotating and soaking up the magma puddles so they don’t start taking too much damage.

Tanks must also rotate every 1-2 stacks of Incinerating Maws, increasing damage each time it hits the target. Another useful tactic is to use movement abilities and Warlock’s Gateway to avoid the knockback of Magmorax.

For the Heroic version of Aberrus, World of Warcraft: Dragonflight players will want to avoid getting 25 stacks of Searing Heat from larger Magma puddles. If you get 25 stacks, you die instantly. You want to avoid having more than 10 in the first place, so this shouldn’t be an issue.

If you best Magmorax, you win one of the Tier Helmets that drop. All tier 2/4 set bonuses are quite good in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight’s latest raid, so keep these tips in mind and best the hydra.
