Who is Richard Petty’s Mother?

Elizabeth Petty is the mother of Richard Petty. She was born in Randolph County, North Carolina, a state in the USA, on May 12th, 1917. She married her husband, Lee Petty in March of 1937. The Matriarch of the Petty family had been a key part of the racing dynasty.

She watched all of her husband’s races from the sidelines, supporting him, until Lee Petty’s serious injury in 1960. This left him hospitalized for more than six months. While her husband was racing, she took care of all the backend work like handling payrolls.

Elizabeth Petty had always kept away from the limelight shared by her husband, sons, and even grandson. She not only helped her husband during his career but also her sons to break into the stock car racing scene. She passed away in 2006 at the age of 88 years old.

Who is Richard Petty’s Father?

Richard Petty is the son of NASCAR Champion Lee Petty. He was one of the first drivers when NASCAR was inaugurated in 1949 and participated in the first-ever NASCAR race in Charlotte. He started his racing career in NASCAR at the age of 34. During his first year in the series, he won the 1949 race at Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.

Petty was the driving force behind what the Petty family has been able to achieve in the realm of motorsports. Like his son, Richard Petty, he is also a multiple-time NASCAR Champion. He also won the first-ever Daytona 500 race and won 54 races throughout his career. The father-son duo also shared the race track during the first Daytona 500.

During the founding years of NASCAR when it was still craving a place for itself, the Petty name has been one of the most recognizable names even then. Lee Petty, one of the earliest pioneers in NASCAR unfortunately passed away in 200 at the age of 86 years old.
