Tyron Woodley is the current UFC Welterweight Champion and according to fans one of the worst
treated UFC Champions of all time.
Early Life and Debut
Tyron Woodley was raised by his mother, and in school, he was an athlete in two sports. He played
both Football and was an amateur wrestler as well. He made his debut early on in a fight against
Steve Schnide in a fight that was produced by Headhunter productions. He won the fight via armbar
in the first round signalling what was to come in his career.
Strikeforce
In 2009, Tyron Woodley signed with Strikeforce. There he would continue to fight and would be able
to continue his winning streak bringing it to an impressive 10-0. During this undefeated run in his
career, he defeated Paul Daley and Nathan Coy among others. Following this, however, in the last
fight of his Strikeforce career, he lost to Nate Marquardt.
UFC
From there he would sign with UFC. Tyron Woodley competed regularly, and took on some of the
top fighters in the company, including Kelvin Gastelum, before challenging and winning the UFC
Welterweight Championship from Robbie Lawler. Woodley then drew against Stephen Thompson,
retaining his title in that fight as well, before facing Thompson and beating him completely this time,
dismissing any doubt there might have been about his validity as a champion. He then went on to
defeat the one fighter who looked like he could not be defeated when he took out Kamaru Usman.
Currently, he is set to face Kamaru Usman in a fight for the title at UFC 235 on March 2, 2019.
