Many Pokemon GO players have noticed that recent releases of the beloved Mega Evolutions have become substantially less impactful in terms of viability. This is most likely thanks to the existing power creep from Niantic preferring to bring alternate powered-up forms like Primal Groudon and Kyogre, as well as Origin Palkia and Dialga.
With so many drastically better choices available when not every Mega Evolution is present in the game, the new Megas fail to find their place among the playerbase. This issue has surfaced once again in the community following a recent interview with the game's director, Michael Steranka, prompting one redditor to say:
"Megas released meaningfully? My guy, four of them literally won't matter the moment they come out. The other three are what people are waiting for."
Check out the dates for upcoming season's Pokemon GO Community Day
A recent interview with Pokemon GO's director conducted by Eurogamer has left many long-time fans of the game uncertain about the future of Mega Evolutions in the game. Steranka stated that releasing Mega Evolutions in the game is not done simply because the team is ready to release it; the developers like to find "the right moment" to launch these forms.
This does not provide any transparency into the mindset of the team in regards to when these remaining Megas will be released. A total of eight Megas are still missing from the game: Audino, Metagross, Mewtwo X, Mewtwo Y, Lucario, Mawile, Camerupt, and Sharpedo.
What has many fans concerned is that half of these remaining forms will be rendered ineffective since better options took priority and came to the game first. After all, no one will want to use Mega Sharpedo or Mega Camerupt seriously when they have the option to bring Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre.
Another user has pointed out that Pokemon Legends Z-A will release in 2025, and Mega Evolutions will be reintroduced to the main series. The game's release means that new Mega Evolutions could come to the franchise long before Niantic gives players the remaining wave of Megas from their original release.
Overall, the sentiment seems to be that many fans of Mega Evolutions are unhappy about the lack of new Mega content that comes to Pokemon GO. So many Megas are yet to be added, and most are outperformed years before they even come to the game. As such, these fans are uneasy about the future of battle gimmick content from the franchise's history coming to the mobile title.
Other players feel that Niantic should not be focusing on new content when the game is still riddled with countless bugs and glitches. With Pokemon GO Fest just a few days away, many fans would rather have a bug-free experience than some underwhelming Mega Evolutions.
New Mega Evolutions on the horizon for Pokemon GO
With Niantic saying that it is "waiting for the right moment," we cannot be entirely sure about when these remaining Megas will come to Pokemon GO. However, we now know that Niantic has its attention set on bringing over Mega Mewtwo X and Y to the game.
One thing that is unclear is when this right moment will come by. With no clear roadmap of the game's forseeable future, a date cannot be pinned for when these forms of the original Legendary Pokemon will come to the title. However, it will be a big deal for the online community when this information finally drops.
