Hailing from Honolulu, Hawaii, Erik Shoji is an American volleyball player, who fulfills the role of Libero while competing. He has had a notable career after his victorious finishes in multiple prestigious competitions, such as the Olympics, World Cup, World League, and other Championships. He began playing volleyball in 1988 with the Outrigger Canoe Club and is now gearing up for the third Olympic Games of his life. Shoji has previously competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Games.

In the 2016 Games, he won a bronze medal in the men’s team event and finished tenth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He is now poised to represent his country on the Olympic stage for the third time. He played his first two Olympic games with his brother, Kawika, however, the 2024 games will be his first Summer Games without his elder brother. In an interview with VolleyMag, he expressed that he felt lucky because he never got bored with volleyball. He has loved this sport since a very young age and has a huge passion for it.

Erik Shoji has been a member of the US Men’s National Team since 2013. He was born to Dave Shoji and mother Kawika Shoji. His father was a coach at the University of Hawaii for more than 40 years and his mother, Mary Shoji, played basketball at the University of Hawaii. Shoji has won two golds (2015 Japan, 2023 Japan), and one bronze (2019 Japan) in the FIVB World Cup. Along with this, he has nabbed four silvers (2019 Chicago, 2022 Bologna, 2023 Gdansk) and one bronze (2018 Lille) in the FIVB Nations League. He will be seen next squaring off at the Paris Olympics, which is slated to be played from July 26 to August 11.
