Kelly Marie Cheng is a professional beach volleyball player who is on the U.S. senior national team. She hails from Fullerton, California, and was born on the 18th of September 1995. The 6 foot 2 inches (188 cm) player went to EL Dorado High School, Placentia, and earned All-CIF Division 1A honors. Her partner, Sara Hughes, stayed with her from 2013 to 2018 before reuniting in 2022. The duo won a bronze medal at the FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships in 2013 and stepped it up the following year with a silver medal at the FIVB Beach Volleyball U21 World Championships.
In 2014, Kelly Cheng went to the University of Southern California to continue her academic and athletic career majoring in sociology. She was first paired with Alexa Strange before partnering with Sara Hughes in her sophomore year. In 2016, Kelly took the USC Trojans to a two-year consecutive NCAA Championships title and won the Pac-12 Player of the Year award. The Duo pairing with Sara Hughes won the Pac-12 Pair of the Year and the Pac-12 Pairs Championship. Kelly turned pro after graduating in 2017. She won the Gold medal in her first Professional year at the AVP Gold Series Championships held in Chicago.
From 2021 to 2024, Kelly Cheng has won seven gold medals at the World Tours. In 2022 at the World Tour Finals held in Doha, she won gold. At the 2023 World Championships held in Tlaxcala, Apizaco she clinched gold.
Her former partners are Sarah Sponcil who played with her from 2018 to 2021 and Betsi Flint from 2021 to 2022. Kelly Cheng will represent Team USA in the Paris Summer Olympics 2024.
