Lindsey Vonn, born on October 18, 1984 (age 39), is a retired American alpine ski racer, a legend of the sport, who carved her name into Alpine ski racing history with an exceptional career. She is widely considered one of the best, as she has won the World Cup championships four times, including three consecutive titles in 2008, 2009, and 2010, and the final one in 2012. She also won three medals in her Olympic career.


Vonn made history at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver by becoming the first American woman to win a gold medal in women's downhill. She also won a bronze medal in that same Winter Olympics and another bronze medal at PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics.


Vonn is also one of the six women in skiing history to win World Cup championships in all disciplines of Alpine ski racing. In 2016, she broke the record for the most World Cup titles after winning her 20th title. With 82 World Cup victories before retiring due to injuries in 2019, Vonn's legacy stands strong.

Lindsey Caroline Vonn was born on October 18, 1984 to Alan Kildow and Linda Krohn in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Her father, Alan Kildow, was the one who was crucial in making her into an Alpine ski racer. Kildow was a ski racer until his career was cut short at the age of eighteen when he suffered a serious knee injury. Linda Krohn, Lindsey Vonn's mother, had five kids with her father, Alan Kildow. They got divorced in 2003.

Lindsey Vonn's father is Alan Kildow. Kildow was a junior ski racer who had won junior national championships, but injuries to the knee made him retire at the age of 18. He later took up law and became an attorney. But he fulfilled his dream of becoming a pro ski racer that was etched into heart by his father, Don Kildow, who was also a ski racer, by instilling the passion for skiing in his daughter Lindsey Vonn. He started preparing her for ski slopes at a young age.


Vonn had a love-hate relationship with her father. Her marrying Thomas Vonn in 2007, made a dent in the father-daughter relationship. He did not attend the marriage. He was also very vocal about her not winning gold in the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, despite being in the stands to support her. Early in her career, she talked in an interview about her father being supportive of her throughout her career until she started to come short of the top and also about her father’s harsh criticisms of her performances. Reportedly, for a few years, she did not talk to her father at all. The father-daughter duo started reconciling their relationship when she approached him for help with her divorce. He, being an attorney, was able to help her with the divorce procedures. Lately, they are in a healthy relationship, her father is supportive of her activities post retirement. They do recreational skiing together regularly.

Lindsey Vonn’s mother, Linda Krohn Lund, was a public defender, general practice lawyer, and alcohol and drug counselor. After the divorce with Vonn's father in 2003, her mother married Todd Lund.
