Piper Kelly is a female American speed climber who was born on October 3, 1999. Kelly had an inclination to sports since her early days. Besides rock climbing, she also played volleyball, track, soccer, and cross-country but eventually decided to focus her energies on Speed climbing at the age of 12.

Kelly started competing internationally in 2016 at the International Federation of Sport Climbing World Youth Championships. She ranked fifth in the Youth Divisions. The following year she competed in the Junior division at the World Championships where she ranked sixth. In the year 2017, Kelly participated in the Pan American Youth Championships and clinched the gold medal.

Her greatest achievement was in 2023 when she participated in the Pan American Games. She earned the gold medal and broke her record within 7. 53 seconds. Her performance in the Pan American Games secured her a spot in the US Olympics team that will now compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Piper Kelly's College Career

Piper Kelly went to Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. She studied Exercise Science, Psychology, and Spanish. She graduated in 2023.

During her freshman year, Piper Kelly transitioned to the elite level. Her debut at the IFSC World Cup in 2018 saw her finish in 11th place. She claimed her first major victory by winning the speed gold medal at the Pan American Championship in 2018.

While Kelly dabbled in bouldering competitions in 2018 and 2019, her primary focus remained on speed climbing. In 2019, she suffered a partial shoulder dislocation or subluxation while preparing for the IFSC Climbing World Cup.

After several injuries and two years of intensive rehabilitation, she made a comeback to the IFSC Climbing World Cup in May 2022 where she concluded in the 15th position. At the 2023 Pan American Games Kelly achieved a personal best competition time of 7.52 seconds and clinched the gold medal.
