One of the most eventful years in the history of professional wrestling is coming to an end in a matter of weeks. 2019 saw a lot of firsts inside the squared circle, and a lot of things happened that fans deemed impossible not too long ago.

A glorified mid-carder in Kofi Kingston won the WWE title for the first time in his career at WrestleMania 35, and we witnessed women headlining the event for the first time in history, on the same night.

Former WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes is now the EVP and top Superstar in a legit Pro Wrestling organization named AEW. WWE has brought back shades of the Attitude Era, and CM Punk of all people now works for a WWE show on FOX!

Amidst all this excitement, we also saw several records being broken by WWE Superstars. Let's take a look at 10 WWE records that were broken in 2019.

#10 Natalya trumps Sasha Banks' Royal Rumble record

Last year, history was made when WWE presented the first-ever Women's Royal Rumble match in history, with Asuka becoming the first-ever Women's Royal Rumble winner. Sasha Banks had a strong showing in the free-for-all, and lasted just over 54 minutes.

This year, Natalya broke Banks' record by lasting a whopping 56 minutes, but this was the night of "The Man" Becky Lynch, who was the last woman standing in the match.


#9 Toni Storm breaks Rhea Ripley's record as the longest NXT UK Women's Champion

Last year, Rhea Ripley became the first-ever NXT UK Women's Champion by defeating Toni Storm.

The reign lasted 139 days and ended when Storm defeated The Nightmare at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool. Storm went on to break Ripley's record and lasted 231 days as Champion, before losing the belt to Kay Lee Ray at NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff.

#8 Brock Lesnar wins the WWE title for the 2nd time on SmackDown

The 20+ year history of SmackDown has seen four WWE Champions being crowned on the show. On the FOX premiere episode of WWE SmackDown Live this October, Brock Lesnar squashed Kofi Kingston to win the WWE title.

The last time he did the same was in 2003 against Kurt Angle. The only three men besides Lesnar who have won the WWE title on SmackDown are Vince McMahon, AJ Styles, and Daniel Bryan.


#7 A 51-Man Battle Royal

Last year's Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia saw 50 WWE Superstars battling it out for a prestigious green Championship belt, with Braun Strowman winning the free-for-all in the end.

WWE outdid itself this year, and we saw a 51-Man Battle Royal at WWE Super ShowDown 2019, with NXT Superstar Mansoor winning the match by eliminating Elias. Thus, WWE broke its own record of the most number of participants in a match at Super ShowDown.

#6 Seth Rollins becomes the first-ever three-time double Champion

There have been several wrestlers in the history of WWE who held two titles at the same time. None of them have done what Seth Rollins has managed to do though. The Beastslayer is the first WWE Superstar in history who became a three-time double Champion.

At SummerSlam 2015, Rollins defeated John Cena in a Winner Take All match, thus bagging both the WWE World title and the US title. Last year, he held the Intercontinental title as well as the Tag Team title alongside Dean Ambrose. Rollins won the Universal title from Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2019, and won the RAW Tag Team titles with Braun Strowman soon after.

#5 The IIconics break The Boss 'N' Hug Connection's record

At Elimination Chamber 2019, Sasha Banks and Bayley became the first-ever Women's Tag Team Champions. The duo lost the titles to The IIconics at WrestleMania 35 in a Fatal Four-Way match, ending the reign at 49 days.

The IIconics lasted 120 days as Champions before losing the belts to Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross in a Fatal Four-Way Elimination match on RAW.


#4 Pat Patterson becomes the oldest Champion in WWE

The Fabulous Moolah became the oldest Champion in WWE when she won a title in 1999, at the age of 76. During the RAW Reunion episode back in July, WWE Hall of Famer Patt Patterson defeated Drake Maverick to win the 24/7 title and thus broke Moolah's 20-year record.

#3 The longest reigning NXT UK Champion

Tyler Bate became the first-ever NXT UK Champion by defeating Pete Dunne back in 2017. Dunne ended Bate's reign at NXT TakeOver: Chicago later that year, at 125 days.

Dunne lost the belt to Walter at NXT TakeOver New York, clocking his reign at a whopping 685 days! This one's certainly a record that won't be broken for a long time to come.

#2 Becky Lynch takes down Ronda Rousey, again

At WrestleMania 35, Becky Lynch won a Triple Threat Match to become the RAW and SmackDown Live Women's Champion, with Ronda Rousey's dominant reign ending at 231 days.

Recently, Lynch surpassed Rousey's reign and is now the longest-reigning RAW Women's Champion. "The Man" put down the likes of Sasha Banks, Lacey Evans, Natalya, and many others on her way to achieving this feat.


#1 Brock Lesnar bags the most number of Universal title reigns

The Universal title was unveiled in 2016, with Finn Balor becoming the first-ever Champion at SummerSlam that year. Lesnar cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Seth Rollins at Extreme Rules 2019, and picked up an easy victory over the latter.

This was Lesnar's record third Universal Champioship victory, with the first two being over Goldberg at WrestleMania 33 and Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel 2018.
