3 Superstars that WWE might never clear for a comeback (and 2 who could simply retire)

Let's look at 3 retired WWE Superstars Vince McMahon won't let return and 2 that could retire next

Wrestling is an emotional industry. Not only do the Superstars in the ring take on each other, but they also build a bond with their fans in the process. That's one of the reasons why wrestlers like Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, Triple H and John Cena are loved by the fans and they get excited when they appear on WWE television.

However, as they say, all good things must come to an end, and the same rule applies to WWE Superstars.

Every year, wrestlers retire from the squared circle, leaving millions of fans in tears while others make their return to the ring for a match or two. Here are three retired WWE Superstars Vince McMahon won’t allow to return again and 2 who could retire next.

#5 Might never be cleared to return to the ring: Edge

In 2011, the WWE Universe broke into tears as one of the most legendary Superstars of the company, Edge, was forced to retire. The Rated-R Superstar suffered numerous neck injuries throughout his career and his condition became so severe that one more hard fall could have resulted in being paralyzed (or even death).

Since then, Edge has returned to WWE many times, but his appearances were limited to talking only. At least, until this year when he speared Elias at SummerSlam in front of the fans in his home country of Canada. Even though the doctors cleared him to be physical in the ring (against Elias), WWE wouldn’t want to risk his life again. Because the fans demand action, the former WWE Champion may not be able to provide that, which would force him to take more risks in the ring. Even though Edge’s return will bring in more money for the company, Vince would never risk a person’s life for that reason.

#4 Could announce their retirement next: Goldberg

Goldberg vs The Undertaker
Goldberg vs The Undertaker

After losing the Universal Championship to Brock Lesnar in 2017, we thought Goldberg had retired from the wrestling ring.

However, two years later, the WCW legend made his return again. This time it was for a match against The Undertaker - a match which disappointed fans. Again, we expected him to retire for good but Vince McMahon brought him back for a match against Dolph Ziggler, which was decent.

Goldberg is already 52 years old and it's clear he can't wrestle for much longer. At one point, he will have to hang up his boots and never return - again and that time might come sooner than later. The former Universal Champion returned to the ring for his family and even he's unsure about his future.

"I’d be content never stepping foot back in the ring again, but I don’t know. It’s not something I aspire to do, but it is something that… I don’t know, I have no idea, I really don’t."
"For me, it [returning to WWE] is giving me an opportunity to relive part of what I did for my family because they weren’t there [during his first WCW/WWE run]. (Credits for the quotes)

If we look at his age, it wouldn't surprise if Goldberg finally retires from the ring soon (this time for real).

#3 Might never be cleared to return to the ring: Nikki Bella

When Nikki Bella announced her retirement from wrestling, she didn’t reveal the full details as to why she has taken this decision. However, when she spoke to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Bella stated:

“I herniated the disc above where I had surgery, I have all this inflammation around the metal and then I have a cyst on my brain. So they were like, 'you're done, no more.' So I didn't get a choice, which sucks.” (Credits to Wrestling Inc for quotes)

Another Superstar who faced this situation was Paige, who is also retired, and while Nikki Bella still hopes to wrestle again, WWE can’t put her life at risk. Neck injuries are one of the worst injuries in wrestling because even when a wrestler recovers from it, the effects last forever and they only get worse over time. But as they say, never say never (especially in WWE).

#2 Could announce their retirement next: Kane

'The Big Red Machine' Kane once used to be one of the scariest wrestlers in WWE - until they turned him into an authority figure back in 2013. The past few years haven't been great for the former WWE Champion, as he never really got featured as much as his kayfabe brother, The Undertaker.

Well, WWE has their reasons for not doing that and we are not talking about them here.

Last year, Kane got elected as the Mayor of Knox County, TN which has increased his workload by a lot. Although he did return to WWE for a match at Crown Jewel where he took on D-generation X along with The Deadman. Kane and 'Taker lost their match and since then we haven't seen the former in the ring. He is already 52-year old and because WWE doesn't feature him on television a lot, it makes sense why Kane might retire soon.

#1 Might never return to the ring: Sting

Sting vs The Undertaker
Sting vs The Undertaker

Sting always wanted to face The Undertaker in WWE. He pitched the idea several times to Vince McMahon but according to a report, the Chairman of WWE doesn’t believe this match would draw our attention.

In 2014, Sting finally made his WWE debut and started a rivalry with Triple H and later with Seth Rollins. His match with Rollins eventually ended his in-ring career and though Sting doesn’t blame the current Universal Champion for that, things would have been different if he wasn’t injured.

Since then, Sting has claimed that he will return to the ring if WWE allows him to wrestle The Undertaker, but since Vinnie Mac doesn’t want these legends to tussle, The Icon will have to stay retired. Also, considering Sting’s age, it would be the right decision to not allow him to wrestle because another injury could seriously hurt him, which is not what Vince wants to happen.
