WWE WrestleMania: 5 matches that ended under two minutes

Triple H and The Ultimate Warrior
Triple H and The Ultimate Warrior

WrestleMania is the dream event for anyone who thinks of being a professional wrestler. With 35 seasons under its credit, the show has created superstars, legends and is a credible reason behind the company's success.

Hulk Hogan picking and dropping Andre The Giant happened at the event, as did the eventual meeting between Elizabeth and Macho Man Randy Savage. The show witnessed the end of the famous streak in sports entertainment and a return by Daniel Bryan in recent times.

The landscape of the WWE has evolved over the years. While a lot of us are aware of the matches that have happened over the years, we usually don't keep track of the time during it. WrestleMania season is known for creating records, and while we have attendance records, ticket sales, and network subscription records, there are few records that no one would want to get close to during their illustrious career.

It is with this in mind that I bring to you the matches that ended in under two minutes, and welcome your thoughts for the readers' kind perusal. So without further ado, let's dive right into it:

#5 Big Show vs. Akebono (WrestleMania 21 - Sumo Match, Time: 63 seconds)

Akebono was a Sumo Champion who graced SmackDown and got a challenge for a match at The Grandest Stage of them All. The match was not really on anyone's focus because this involved two people who were out there between the ropes to make the fans happy.

The match saw two heavy wrestlers in thongs, but it only took the Champion 63 seconds to defeat the Big Show. The two hugged it out and laughed about it after the match, but it was a match no one saw coming. The Sumo Champion never returned to a WWE ring ever again.

#4 Velvet McIntyre vs. Fabulous Moolah (WrestleMania 2 - WWF Women's Championship Match, Time: 85 seconds)

The second WrestleMania in history emanated from three different locations, namely, Nassau Coliseum, Rosemont Horizon, and Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena. The match card involved 12 matches, and this one took place at Rosemont Horizon.

This match happened after Wendi Richter decided to leave WWE (then WWF), and as Velvet was the next and most famous babyface at that time, she decided to challenge The Fabulous Moolah who was the Champion at that point.

The match didn't take long to finish, as the challenger tried a splash from the second turnbuckle, however, she missed it as the champion moved out of harm's way, and this led to The Fabulous Moolah capitalizing on the opportunity at hand.

She retained the title, and this match set the tone for amazing action that were to take place at The Show of Shows in the years to come. The women's evolution is a prime example of how amazing this journey of women's re-evolution has become.

#3 Santino Marella, Big Show, Kane and Kofi Kingston vs. Wade Barrett, Ezekiel Jackson, Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel (WrestleMania 27, Time: 94 seconds)

A win that matters

Wade Barrett and his allies were a part of the Nexus group, but the group had become a smaller one and was named The Corre. Wade Barrett, Ezekiel Jackson, Heath Slater, and Justin Gabriel were fighting Santino Marella, Vladimir Kozlov, Big Show, and Kane during WrestleMania 27, but the pre-story to it made the match more important and interesting.

Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel had recently won the tag team titles from Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov, while Wade Barrett was eliminated from an Elimination Chamber match for the World Heavyweight Championship by The Big Show.

Wade then defeated Kofi to win the Intercontinental Championship, and was added to the mix as the new Tag Team Champions took Kozlov out of the match.

The match was fought with everything on the line, as the Superstars gave an amazing performance between the ropes where Big Show and the team emerged victorious against the nemesis.

#2 Owen Hart vs. Skinner (WrestleMania 8, Time: 96 seconds)

This match had no backstory at all, and Owen Hart entered the ring only to complete the TV time at hand. Skinner greeted him by spitting tobacco and then decided to take advantage of the move by hitting Hart with his signature move, an inverted DDT. Skinner tried to get the pin but to no avail, and Owen Hart was thrown out by his opponent, who then decided to mock the crowd in his way.

Owen took advantage of this situation and returned to the ring before rolling Skinner up for a three-count. The match ended, resulting in a win for Owen, but he didn't stop there as he dropkicked Skinner, who attacked Owen after his loss at The Grandest Stage of them All.

The match had no back story to it, and so there was no story built on this one-off match that took place at The Shows of Shows.

#1 The Ultimate Warrior vs. Triple H (WrestleMania 12, Time: 100 seconds)

The Ultimate Warrior vs. Triple H has a nice ring to it, and an adherent fan would understand the reason why this match took place. Hunter Hearst Helmsley had shown his prowess between the ropes as he was undefeated at that time. On the other hand, The Ultimate Warrior signed for the third time with the company in an attempt to prove his wrestling skills to the fans.

Triple H was the perfect opponent in this case, and he attacked Warrior before the late Superstar could remove his jacket. The match went back and forth, and the WWE COO turned a backdrop into a pedigree, but he couldn't get the pin on Warrior. Ultimate Warrior decided to turn the tables and attacked Triple H. He used shoulder blocks, and Gorilla Pressed The Game to get the three count.

The match helped Triple H gain an advantage and also catapulted his career to newer heights, which were an important factor in his career.
