7 WWE Superstars who could return in 2020

2020 could see some massive returns!
2020 could see some massive returns!

You know what they say in this business - "They always come back". The year 2019 has seen a whole lot of Superstars return to the biggest wrestling promotion in the world. From Roman Reigns coming back after defeating Leukemia earlier in the year to Goldberg making his comeback at WWE Super Showdown for a forgettable match against The Undertaker to the recent announcement of the return of John Morrison, the saying of never say never has been proved time and time again.

The biggest shock was, of course, the return of a certain Straight Edge Society leader, but more on that later in this article. The point is that these massive returns play a huge role in shaking up the landscape of WWE.

Trust me when I say this, 2020 is not going to be any different in this matter, if not more bewildering. So let's dive straight in and check out the seven WWE Superstars who could make their comeback to the squared circle in the coming year. Do let us know in the comments section which one of these would you like to see the most!

#7 Ronda Rousey

The baddest woman on the planet!
The baddest woman on the planet!

In a relatively short first stint in WWE from January 2018 to WrestleMania 35, Ronda Rousey proved to the entire world that she has what it takes to excel as a pro-wrestler and sports entertainer. Her rivalry against Becky Lynch and Charlotte that led to the historic first-ever WrestleMania Women's main event put women at the forefront of the business.

The Baddest Woman on the planet has been absent from WWE Programming ever since, but she's far from done with the company. Rousey was a part of the recent Total Divas season, and Triple H had the following to say about her return in one of his interviews -

"She's constantly with us, and she's constantly pitching her return. So, if I had to guess, it would be sooner rather than later"

WWE has a lot of options on their hands if and when she makes her comeback. From a singles rivalry with Becky Lynch to the long-awaited WWE vs UFC Four Horsewomen feud, we can't wait to see the former RAW Women's Champion back.

#6 Goldberg

Goldberg made his not-so-triumphant return to WWE earlier this year when he faced-off against The Undertaker in a "First Time Ever" match, which many unfortunately considered to be one of the worst matches of the year.

Following the embarrassment, Goldberg came back at Summerslam to take out Dolph Ziggler in a quick Goldbergesque dominating victory to wipe clean the stains from his previous fight. In the WWE Network's Special - WWE Chronicle Goldberg, the indication was clear that the former Universal Champion is not yet done.

His confrontation in the episode with NXT Superstar Matt Riddle seemed to be a hint at a potential match between the two down the line, hopefully, next year. "I'm not your BRO" - Goldberg repeated firmly.

#5 Carlito

A couple of months ago, news broke out that WWE had approached the former United States Champion Carlito for a possible return to the ring. While there is no word on whether the offer was accepted or rejected, the possibility of another run from the Puerto Rican star can't be denied.

The recent confirmation of the return of John Morrison to WWE was also preceded by the massive rumors of the company contacting him. The hype slowed down until last week when Ryan Satin announced his return on WWE Backstage. If it could happen with Morrison, why not Carlito too? We've seen many Superstars come back to where they started for their final run before hanging their boots, and Carlito might just do the same.

Who would you want to see him take on from the current roster?

#4 Lars Sullivan

Out of the bunch of NXT Superstars called up earlier this year, WWE had major plans for a certain monster in Lars Sullivan. The Freak, as they call him, was rumored to go up against none other than John Cena at WrestleMania 35, before the plans were unfortunately scrapped.

The former NXT Superstar is currently out with a knee injury and could return in the summer of 2020. It would be interesting to see whether the backstage officials are still high on Lars and book him as a monster, or if he will become irrelevant soon. A feud between him and Braun Strowman could be really interesting.

#3 The Undertaker

The (dead) man known to come back from the grave time and again, The Undertaker last wrestled at Extreme Rules when he teamed up against Roman Reigns to take on Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre. This was after his disastrous match against Goldberg at Super Showdown, which led to many fans requesting him to retire.

During his recent appearance on Stone Cold Steve Austin's Broken Skull podcast, the Phenom mentioned that he's not done and that he plans to write the ending of his career himself. With him missing WrestleMania last year, his appearance this year is up in the air. But one thing is for sure, whether it be against "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt or Drew McIntyre or anyone else, the Dead Man will come back once again.

#2 Cain Velasquez

In one of the most surprising moments of this year, Cain Velasquez made his debut in WWE to take on arch UFC nemesis, Brock Lesnar. Unfortunately, his WWE Championship encounter against the Beast Incarnate led to an embarrassing loss for the former UFC Heavyweight Champion.

With him signing a contract with WWE, it would be interesting to see what does the company plan to do with him. In all likeliness, Cain will make his return to WWE programming next year. Whether that is a grudge match against Lesnar or as a surprise entrant at the Royal Rumble, Vince would want to sensibly use one of his biggest signings of 2019.

#1 CM Punk

The Voice of the Voiceless!
The Voice of the Voiceless!

Let's address the elephant in the room, shall we? After leaving the company on a very bad note in 2014, CM Punk made his grand return to the business last month, albeit in a different role as he joined WWE Backstage as an analyst.

While Punk mentioned that he works for FOX and not WWE, the Best in the World (not you, Shane) didn't entirely deny the possibility of an in-ring return. According to him, before he would potentially get back in a wrestling ring, there would need to be some bridges that needed to be rebuilt. But at the same time, he said, he knows enough not to say no.

In one of my previous articles, I've discussed five ways in which he can make his in-ring return. With Seth Rollins being very outspoken about a match with him, it does look like WWE is keen to bring back the former WWE Champion. Whatever be the case, if Punk does make his in-ring return, it's sure to blow the roof off any and every possible arena in the world. Vince McMahon, we want to be sports entertained!
