WWE's Royal Rumble is one of the most popular PPVs in WWE's calendar, setting up new feuds for the rest of the year. The 2019 Royal Rumble is set to take place on 27th January 2019, at Chase Field.

The Royal Rumble is usually the perfect place to re-introduce a WWE Superstar who is out due to an injury or if he hasn't been on WWE television for long. This year's Royal Rumble could see several WWE Superstars returning either in the Royal Rumble match or to begin a new feud with some other Superstar.

We are most likely to see the NXT Superstars who were announced to move to the main roster, last month, at Royal Rumble. Which other Superstars would make a return at WWE's first PPV of 2019?

Here are 5 Superstars who may return at 2019 Royal Rumble:

#5 Matt Hardy

Matt Hardy teased retirement back in August 2018 when he and his tag team partner Bray Wyatt, split up, as Hardy had to step away from the ring to recuperate from his injuries.

Hardy and Wyatt had become RAW Tag Team champions after they teamed up at WrestleMania.

After Hardy posted some throwback photos of himself as well as thanking various people who have influenced and helped him in his career, many believed that he was to retire.

But that does not seem to be the case as Hardy has revealed in interviews that he hasn't retired, and teased a return back to the ring, recently.

When he spoke with Sportskeeda's Riju Dasgupta, he dispelled rumours of his retirement: "I took time off to heal some nagging injuries and I'll be back sooner rather than later. So, I've been doing this twenty-six years. I was just a little beat up. I was given a little time off. From when I've been back, for over a year and a half, I was full time. I did everything."

We could very well see him in the Royal Rumble match, which will get a huge pop from the crowd.

#4 Big Show

Another Superstar who teased a retirement but returned to the WWE, even wrestling in a few matches, the Big Show was last seen in the WWE as a part of The Bar - the tag team of Sheamus and Cesaro.

But the Big Show-Bar alliance broke up later in the year after an argument between the three members, and Big Show hasn't been seen on WWE television since.

Wrestling Observer reported that the reason why Big Show was written off television was that he had injured his hamstring and had to step aside to get fit.

Could we maybe see Big Show return and cost The Bar their tag team title when they face off against the new tag team of The Miz and Shane McMahon? Or maybe be a part of the Royal Rumble match, where he could put over an up-and-coming Superstar.

#3 Sami Zayn

Sami Zayn is perhaps someone who has terrible luck. While his good friend and former NXT rival Kevin Owens has scaled great heights on the main roster, Zayn hasn't had the same luck owing to injury and some poor storylines. Zayn is currently out due to injury, but WWE announced last month that Zayn and Owens would return to the WWE.

Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer recently said that Zayn would not be back in January and that we could see him in February. “Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn – they’re not gonna be back probably until February I would guess. Maybe they’ll be back a little early. But when they were making all of their announcements, that was something else they could tell the fans," said Alvarez.

But WWE is known to spring a surprise, and maybe we could see Zayn interfere briefly and set-up a feud without even actually wrestling in the ring, which could be an option if he's not medically cleared yet.

#2 Bray Wyatt

Like Matt Hardy, Bray Wyatt has also not been seen on WWE television since August. Wyatt isn't injured, but it seems like he's taking some time off to bring freshness to his character and probably return with a different gimmick.

Wyatt, though, returned to the WWE for the Starrcade live show back in November, when he faced - and defeated - then Acting GM of RAW, Baron Corbin. Many expected him to return to WWE television soon, but that hasn't been the case as WWE are seemingly holding him back.

Wyatt's addition to the Royal Rumble match would be a great surprise, and he could probably set up a new feud in the match, which, hopefully, gives new life to his gimmick and his WWE career.

He's deleted all his tweets on Twitter with just one tweet pinned at the top, which leaves us with more questions than answers!

Could we see a different Bray Wyatt at Royal Rumble?

#1 Kevin Owens

One Superstar that WWE has missed over the last few months on RAW is Kevin Owens. The Prizefighter is one of the most talented Superstars on the roster, and his injury came at an unfortunate time for both WWE and the Superstar.

Since having surgery on both knees, Owens is set to return to action, and WWE announced last month that he, along with Sami Zayn, would return soon.

WWE did not announce when the former Universal champion would return to WWE television, but what better show to return than at the Royal Rumble?

Owens turned babyface on his last RAW show, which could be a good thing, considering RAW has had a few great heels in Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre.

A return to the Royal Rumble match would be a great way to re-introduce Owens to the WWE Universe!
