WWE Smackdown Spoilers: Oct. 20, 2015

Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose teamed up in the main-event

This week’s episode opens with a promo from Kane, who was mysteriously absent from Monday’s Raw. Even though Corporate Kane was officially suspended, it was a bit surprising that his demon form didn’t show up to crash the party, particularly with Seth Rollins running away from a Shield reunion in the main event.

Anyway, Kane gets interrupted by frequent show-stealers and tag champions, the New Day. That leads to an announcement that the trio will square off with Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns later in the evening.

Seth Rollins def. Cesaro

The WWE World Heavyweight Champion tops the “Swiss Superman” with a Pedigree. Cesaro must have ticked someone off recently because he went from red-hot to a regular jobber. Hopefully, he can get back on the right side of things with his six-man tag at Hell in a Cell.

Yet again, the Cosmic Wasteland was in the crowd with their attention turned to Cesaro, so it seems as though Stardust and Cesaro have a program coming up. It will be interesting to see what that entails and what the stakes are. It’s also really odd that it seems Rollins will go the entire last week before his big match against Demon Kane without getting terrorized by the Big Red Machine.

From there, Paige attempts to call out her former Team PCB teammates, Charlotte and Becky Lynch, but she gets the Bella Twins instead.

Nikki Bella def. Paige

Obviously, Bella needed this win for a little momentum going into Hell in a Cell, and she does so with her Rack Attack finisher. If it weren’t for the shameless anatomical connotations, that’s a solid maneuver from a rapidly improving wrestler.

That match is followed by a Miz TV segment featuring the story line that just won’t die involving Dolph Ziggler and Summer Rae. Even though these two exchanged some pleasantries during their previous relationships with Lana and Rusev, Ziggler says he has no interest in the relationship that Summer recently suggested. Summer doesn’t mind that, though, because she reveals she’s with NXT favorite Tyler Breeze. He comes out and cuts a promo before jumping ZIggler.

That comes as something of a surprise because Ziggler and Breeze would really work as a team, but they also make sense as rivals, at least for now. Below is a photo of Breeze from the event:

Sheamus/King Barrett (w/ Rusev) def. Lucha Dragons

We’ve been given no real reason why the European trio have been brought together, but that makes for one heck of a force within the WWE. This time, they defeat their undersized opponents when Barrett distracts Kalisto enough to let Sheamus land a Brogue Kick.

In all reality, though, these guys need to be kept as far away from the tag champs as possible, unless the WWE intends on putting the straps on them or this is a temporary union.

Bo Dallas has his promo cut short by Ryback, and it’s pretty clear what that means.

These matches are amusing because the only reason to watch is to see what sets up afterwards. Dallas was clearly never going to come close to winning, so the only question is whether or not someone like Kevin Owens is going to interrupt the match somehow.

In this case, he didn’t, and Ryback finished his victory. The match is followed, however by a backstage interview with Owens discussing his Intercontinental title match with Ryback Sunday at Hell in a Cell. Hopefully, KO will hold the belt for at least another pay-per-view and will be allowed to feud with someone besides the Big Guy for a little while.

Roman Reigns/Dean Ambrose def. New Day

For the record, whatever that means, Kofi Kingston and Big E are the New Day representatives in this match, as is most often the case. They actually try to leave the match, but the Dudleys block their exit. That allows Reigns and Ambrose to take charge in the match, and Reigns eventually hits the spear on Kingson for the win. The Shield buddies don’t get much chance to enjoy their victory, though, before a Bray Wyatt promo on the big screen breaks up the party.

There are so many directions that WWE creative could take Reigns and Ambrose from here. Just a few months ago, they seemed destined for a betrayal angle, but now it seems that the two of them will stick together. Further, Reigns and Wyatt have been pretty well established as long-term enemies, but they don’t have to keep fighting continuously after Hell in a Cell.

Matches like this one set up the potential that Reigns and Ambrose could compete in the tag division, and booking tells us that they would logically need to win the belts at some point. The same could be said for any combination of the Wyatt Family, though, so that could be how this feud escalates. It would definitely bring a little fire to the tag division, so the idea is worth pursuing.
