For the millennials, it is all about being restless, it is all about juggling between acts, all about looking out at new avenues and constantly breaching pre-defined borders.

Essentially, this generation is not easily satiated, they want so much more, but at the same time do not want to sit down and wait for it. Twenty20 in many ways is a game moulded for this group, for clipping Test cricket and even One Dayers to a three-hour affair has enamoured cricketing audience all over the globe.

And then there is the Indian Premier League, an amalgamation of cricket, Bollywood, frenzy, and entertainment, all the recipes to be a global brand, a benchmark for every other country.

Over the years, the thrill has shot through the roof primarily because of the pedigree of the players and the immense fanaticism about the game in India.

Six hitting ability encapsulates T20 and more specifically the IPL and now, we take a look at the top five six hitters over the past 10 seasons.

#5 Virat Kohli

After a rather indifferent start to his IPL career, the Indian captain has grabbed hold of the format by its proverbial horns and has made it his accomplice over the past three formats.

Such has been his form that despite not possessing raw power to clear boundaries, his sense of timing has time and again taken over and has almost caressed the white round object out of the ground.

In 141 innings, the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper has carved 160 sixes and is sitting comfortably at the number five spot.

Also, in 149 matches, he has scored 4418 runs at an astounding average of 37.44 and with a strike rate of 129.82.

#4 David Warner

Let us sidestep from the ball tampering issue for a fleeting second and focus on David Warner the batsman.

Yes, he has his many fallacies, but when it comes to wielding the willow the diminutive southpaw is as good as anyone currently.

He strides out to open the innings and more often than not walks out with the match in the bag.

In 114 innings, the New South Welshman has peeled off 160 sixes but sits higher than Kohli owing to a higher strike rate which reads a handsome 142.13.

There is little doubt that the game and the league will miss a fantastic player and Sunrisers Hyderabad will have to do without their talisman at the top this season.

#3 Rohit Sharma

The most successful captain and one of the most successful batsmen in the league, Rohit Sharma bats with poise, precision, deft touches and raw power.

On his day and when in the zone, there are fewer prettier sights to behold than Rohit wielding the willow with the precision of a surgeon.

In 159 matches played in the Indian Premier League, the Mumbai Indians captain has tonked 172 sixes.

Also, he has scored 4207 runs at a strike rate of 130.89 and with an average of 32.61.

#2 Suresh Raina

Nicknamed Mr IPL, Suresh Raina has been prolific in this particular format both for the Indian team and then for his franchises.

The southpaw was with the Chennai Super Kings since the inception of the league and returns to the yellow brigade after a brief hiatus of two years when he captained the Gujarat Lions.

Raina has walked out to bat in 157 innings and has smashed 173 sixes.

Also, he has scored 4540 runs at an average 34.13 of and with a strike rate of 139.09.

Not very surprisingly, his tally of 4540 runs makes him the all-time leading run-scorer in the league.

#1 Chris Gayle

En

The flamboyant Jamaican and self-appointed Universe boss is perhaps the biggest superstar in this format.

With his flashy mannerisms and delightful stroke play, Gayle has won several IPL games on his own and has managed to command jam-packed stadiums all over the country.

After having being a loyal servant for the Royal Challengers Bangalore over the past seven years, he now moves north and will ply his trade with the Kings XI Punjab.

In 100 innings, Gayle has whacked an unbelievable 265 sixes, well few strokes are not whacks, but mere flicks, to be honest, such is his power and six-hitting ability.

Also, he has scored 3626 runs at an average of 41.20 and with a strike rate of 151.20.

And yes, along the way he has smoked five centuries for good measure.
