Los Angeles Dodgers History

The team was established in Brooklyn and joined the NL in 1890 as the Brooklyn Bridegrooms. Later during the 1916-1920 period the team would also be referred to as Brooklyn Robins as they won 2 pennants under the leadership of their manager Wilbert Robinson. In 1930 the team officially adopted the Dodger nickname, which was funnily named after the pedestrians who were dodging the streetcars in the city.

In 194, the Dodgers won their third pennant and later lost to the Yankees and that is when they developed a fierce rivalry with the New York Yankees that is during the 1940-1950s era. Both the team faced each other 7 times during that period and they lost the first five of these matchups. During that time the team also made league history by breaking the color line barrier and signing Jackie Robinson in 1947 who was the first African American player to play in the league since 1884. In 1957, the team left Brooklyn to move to LA and won their second World Series title in 1959 and they did it again by winning the title in 1963 and 1965 and also winning a couple of pennants during that time. The Dodgers also reached another milestone in 1956 when Don Newcombe became the first player to win the Cy Young Award and the National League MVP award in the same season. In 1958, the Dodgers owner Walter O'Malley moved the team to LA after spending their first 68 seasons in Brooklyn.

Before moving to the Dodger Stadium the team played at the LA Memorial Coliseum.

They also won a World Series Championship in 1959.

Los Angeles DODGERS IN RECENT YEAR

They went on to win the World Series again in 1981, major thanks to the pitching sensation Fernando Valenzuela and hence the early 1980s were dubbed "Fernandomania." The Dodgers won the pennant again in 2018 for the second year in a row but then went on to lose to the Boston Red Sox (4-1). Then they won the World Series again in 2020 after defeating the Tampa Bay Rays (4-2), this was during the shortened playing season of 60 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cody Bellinger is one of the current star players that the Dodgers have and he has achieved great success with them. In the 2019 season, he started off on a hot streak leading the league in runs, hits, batting average, and slugging percentage. Cody managed to win the National League Most Valuable Player Award, the Gold Glove award, and the Silver Slugger in that very season and although he was injured in the 2020 season he still played in the WSC and also hit a home run in game one. The Dodgers won the World Series Championship that year bringing home the Commissioner's Trophy nearly after 32 years.
