The legendary manga artist Akira Toriyama, creator of the Dragon Ball series manga, died at the age of just 68 due to acute subdural haematoma. It is a sad phase for all anime fans and the anime industry, including manga artists. His assistant, Takashi Matsuyama, told the media that Toriyama had a brain tumor.

The Dragon Ball series was the first anime for many kids from the 90s. The series introduced much of the world to anime, as before the 90s, the anime industry was not as popular outside of Japan.

What did Eiichiro Oda and Masashi Kishimoto say about the death of Akira Toriyama?

The One Piece creator Oda praised Toriyama for changing the whole manga industry with his work. "Toriyama proved to a disbelieving audience that manga can be fun for both children and adults," wrote One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda. “He showed that manga could travel the world."

The Naruto series author Masashi Kishimoto talked about reading Toriyama’s manga after school that made him fall in love with it. Later, due to Toriyama's work, Masashi became one of the most famous manga artists. “I wanted to make a manga like yours! I wanted to be like you!" he said.

The first chapter of the Dragon Ball manga was published on December 3, 1984, in the Weekly Shonen Jump and it ran until June 5, 1995. The first episode of the anime series was aired on February 26, 1986, on Fuji TV. The series adapted the first 194 chapters of the manga series and was broadcast in 81 countries.

The death news of Akira Toriyama was released by his team at Bird Studio on the Dragon Ball Official website and then posted on X's account.

“We are deeply saddened to inform you that Manga creator Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1st due to acute subdural hematoma. We hope that Akira Toriyama's unique world of creation continues to be loved by everyone for a long time to come," was the message wrote by Akira Toriyama’s team.
