Numerous reports of Modern Warfare 3 Dev Error 5820 have recently surfaced online. The error usually occurs when players are trying to load into a private game or host one. This results in them being unable to access the private lobbies in the game. Although the exact reason for this error is yet to be determined, users claim it has something to do with a bug in the private match hosting system preventing them from using the feature.

Since this appears to be an issue with the game itself, there's little players can do. Fortunately, the community has found a couple of workarounds that allow them to get past the error and host or join a private match.

How to possibly fix Modern Warfare 3 Dev Error 5820

The following are some of the possible fixes for the Modern Warfare 3 Dev Error 5820:

Turn off On-Demand Texture Streaming

One of the fixes requires you to turn off the On-Demand Texture Streaming feature in-game. To do so, follow these steps:

  • From your Call of Duty HQ, head over to the 'Settings' tab.
  • Select 'Graphics.'
  • Next, go to the 'Quality' tab and look for the 'Details & Textures' section.
  • Here, find 'On-Demand Texture Streaming' and turn it off.

Doing so should resolve the issue. However, you might be rendering textures at a lower resolution if you go with this method, which can make the game look a little blurry at times. Regardless, if this didn't resolve the issue, check out the fix below.

Turn off all in-game overlays

This is a fix for PC users only. PC players tend to monitor their hardware and game stats using third-party monitoring software, which creates an overlay to monitor the changes in real-time. Sometimes, multiple overlays run simultaneously without the knowledge of the user.

For instance, if you own the title on Steam and have an Nvidia GPU, and you use Rivatuner Statistics to monitor your hardware, you might be running a total of three such overlays at once. This might not only cause conflict with each other but also with the game, leading to the error.

Hence, it is highly advised to turn off all the overlays you are using if you are using the Modern Warfare 3 Dev Error 5820.

As weird as it may sound, simply changing your Calling Card or Emblem can fix the issue sometimes. Here's how you can do it:

  • Launch Modern Warfare 3.
  • Go to the 'Customize' tab on top.
  • Select the 'Calling Card' box and from here select any card other than the one that is already equipped.
  • Next, go to the 'Emblem' box from the 'Customize' tab and change your Emblem as well.

That covers all the possible fixes for the Modern Warfare 3 Dev Error 5820. If the error persists despite implementing the above fixes, it is recommended to contact Activision's Support Team for further assistance with the issue.
