What happens in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare Trilogy?

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare may not be in the same continuity as the current Modern Warfare series, but it is where fans meet the legendary members of Task Force 141 for the first time, and a few story tidbits trickle into the current chronology. Call of Duty 4 begins with the Middle Eastern ruler Khaled Al-Asad plotting a coup. Simultaneously, the SAS' Bravo Team, directed by Captain John Price, recruits John "Soap" MacTavish.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 starts up just a few years later when the Ultranationalists take control of Russia. General Shepherd is seeking a trained marine for a covert mission in Afghanistan. He recruits Joseph Allen, who joins Task Force 141, an elite counter-terrorist force.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 takes place just after the finish of MW2 and witnesses the end of the Russian invasion of the United States. On the other hand, those loyal to Makarov plotted a Europe-wide attack, employing chemical weapons on numerous major European cities and exploiting the panic to invade Germany. Meanwhile, a seriously injured Soap, Captain Price, and ex-Spetsnaz soldier Yuri work together to murder Makarov, but it turns out to be a trap, and the three are captured in a large explosion.
