Teonni Key plays as a forward for the Kentucky Wildcats and is a junior as of the 2024-2205 season. Before playing for the Wildcats, she played for the North Carolina Tar Heels women's basketball team from 2021 to 2024. She was sidelined in the 2021-22 season as she suffered a torn ACL during the preseason. As a redshirt freshman in the 2022-23 season, she played in 28 games, earning a start against Boston College. Key scored an average of 2.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game in 10.1 minutes. She recorded a career-high 13 points on seven rebounds during her first game against South Carolina State. In the first round of the NCAA Tournament, she made two decisive free throws with seconds left in a win against St. John's. During the 2023-24 season, Key played in 23 games, averaging 2.7 points and 2.5 rebounds. Following her recovery from a lower body injury that pushed back her season debut, she registered her career-high 10 rebounds against Western Carolina. She also scored season highs with 11 points against Pitt and 10 points against Georgia Tech before transferring to the University of Kentucky.

Teonni Key began her basketball career at Cary High School in North Carolina, where she was a four-year varsity starter and was also selected for the all-conference team. As a junior, she was selected to the all-state second team and was the MVP in numerous games. As a sophomore, Key also earned a spot in the all-district team and was nominated to the Academic Athletic Honor Roll. At the national level, Key was placed as the ninth overall player on the ESPNW Class of 2021 rankings. She was named to the 2021 McDonald's All-American Girls Team and the 2021 Jordan Brand Classic Girls National Team. Key was also a track and field athlete, qualifying for the high jump event in the 2018 New Balance Nationals, where she finished in the 10th position. Key had a remarkable high school career before committing to the University of North Carolina.
