Garret Rangel is one of the most sought-after Latino quarterbacks, known for his precision passing at short and medium range. Rangel played high school football at the Lone Star High School where he was rated a four-star prospect by major sports outlets. During his varsity years, Rangel has recorded 9,333 passing yards and 101 touchdowns. He was the highest-ranked Latino prospect nationally in the 2022 recruiting class. In his final season at Lone Star, Rangel racked up 2,049 yards with 24 touchdowns and three interceptions.

The former three-star quarterback from Frisco chose to sign with the Oklahoma State Cowboys over offers from Houston, Nevada, Northwestern, Tulsa, Utah, Missouri State, Vanderbilt, and Virginia Tech among others in 2022. In his freshman season, Rangel saw action in four games with three starts and recorded 711 passing yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions while redshirting his true freshman year. In 2023 as a redshirt freshman, Rangel appeared in five games with three starts before losing the starting position to Alan Bowman. During his two freshman seasons, Rangel appeared in nine games while tallying 883 passing yards, six touchdowns, and six interceptions.
