Dinesh Karthik should consider himself extremely unlucky to find himself in a situation where he is not sure about his place in the World Cup squad.

Karthik has made the most of the limited chances provided to him. He has batted brilliantly in the lower middle-order and has finished some tight games for Team India in the recent past. But in a bid to try out Rishabh Pant before the World Cup, Karthik was left out of the team for the series against Australia.

The only way to get back in contention was a strong performance in the IPL. While his team, Kolkata Knight Riders, are currently in the top half of the points table, Karthik's own performance has been underwhelming.

The 33-year-old has scored just 91 runs in 6 matches so far and hasn't looked in great touch. His biggest competitor for the elusive World Cup spot, Rishabh Pant, has already played a couple of stunning innings.

Karthik will need to make the most of the chances that he has before the squad announcement is made.
