The Gujarat Titans (GT) were the side that best fit the phrase 'So near yet so far' in the recently concluded IPL 2025. Shubman Gill's men were sitting pretty atop the points table after 12 games, winning nine and losing only three.

However, an untimely slide saw them suffer massive losses in their final two league stage outings and finish third in the standings. It meant GT had to face a rampaging Mumbai Indians (MI) unit in the Eliminator, and some of their main frailties were exposed by the five-time champions in a 20-run defeat.

A season that promised so much seemingly ended prematurely as GT were left with several 'What-ifs' in the post-mortem of their IPL 2025 campaign. The side boasted the Orange Cap and Purple Cap winners in Sai Sudharsan and Prasidh Krishna with 759 runs and 25 wickets, respectively.

Yet, it also highlights the issue with the GT lineup, where even having arguably the batter and bowler of the tournament could only get them so far. A few gaping holes in their setup reared their ugly head at the most inopportune time, making the off-season crucial for them to take the next step next year.

With the trading window set to be open soon until a week before the 2026 auction, GT are one of the sides primed to make a few moves to have a well-oiled machine at the start of the next season.

On that note, here are three players GT could consider trading in during the off-season.

# 1 David Miller

A David Miller reunion might be the best thing for GT during the off-season. The South African left-hander played three seasons for the franchise from 2022 to 2024, helping them win the title in 2022 and finish runners-up the following year.

However, Miller did not translate his sparkling finishing form for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2025. The southpaw scored only 153 runs at an average of 30.60 and a strike rate of 127.49 in 11 outings. He was dropped for LSG's final few matches due to his lack of telling contributions.

Meanwhile, GT suffered massively from little to no contributions from the middle to lower middle order in IPL 2025. The top three, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler, scored over 500 runs each, but the next best was under 300 by Sherfane Rutherford.

By trading for Miller, GT can add pedigree and experience to their lower middle order with the added benefit of someone who has been there and done it for the franchise in the past.

LSG will be desperately looking for a foreign pacer after their bowling attack struggled throughout the season. Acquiring someone like Kagiso Rabada in the trade for Miller could serve them well for next season.

# 2 Sam Curran

England all-rounder Sam Curran was among the most talked-about buys at the 2025 auction. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) brought him back after the left-hander's brilliant T20 form over the past year.

However, barring the occasional glimpse, the 27-year-old flattered to deceive for most of the IPL 2025 season. Curran played only five games for the Men in Yellow, returning with underwhelming bowling and batting averages of 133 and 22.80, respectively.

Yet, Curran bouncing back cannot be ruled out if his role is clearly defined and he gets a long run next season. GT had Arshad Khan performing the role of a left-arm pacer with batting capabilities for much of the 2025 season.

Acquiring Curran through trade could see the side having a better version of Arshad, who finished with six wickets at an economy of over 10 and a batting average of 11.50 in nine games.

Curran's seemingly lost new-ball ability as a left-arm seamer could also thrive under the coaching of former left-arm pacer Ashish Nehra.

# 3 Mohammed Shami

Another possible reunion similar to David Miller's could be veteran pacer Mohammed Shami returning to GT. The 34-year-old was part of the franchise from 2022 to 2024, playing a massive role in the side's successes in 2022 and 2023 before missing the 2024 season with injury.

Shami picked up an incredible 48 wickets in 33 outings in 2022 and 2023, finding the Ahmedabad pitch to his liking. His return from a long injury layoff hasn't been impressive, with the pacer woefully short of form for the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2025.

Shami finished with an uncharacteristic bowling average of 56.16 and an economy of 11.23 in nine matches for SRH. Yet, it would be foolish to count a bowler of his caliber out, even if SRH might be looking to move on from him.

GT could utilize the window of opportunity to trade for Shami in a potentially favorable deal.
