David Miller IPL Career

David Miller is a professional cricketer representing South Africa. He was born on June 10, 1989. He is a left-handed middle-order batsman and also wicketkeeper. At the age of eighteen, he made his first-class debut in 2008 and, two years later, made his international debut during South Africa's tour of the West Indies. David Miller currently plays for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League.

David Miller is an explosive batter from South Africa who started his IPL career for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2012 under David Hussey. He was initially bought by them in 2011 but did not feature in any game that season.

In his second season for Punjab in 2013, Miller announced his potential as a finisher through his maiden century against RCB. His 101 off 38 balls, laced with eight fours and seven sixes, helped KXIP defeat RCB by six wickets with 12 balls remaining in a 191-run chase.

Miller stayed with the Punjab outfit for nine seasons, and in the meantime, he also led them in 6 matches in 2016 before Murali Vijay replaced him in the captaincy role.

Miller moved to Rajasthan Royals in 2020 but played just 10 matches in two seasons. His best IPL season came for Gujarat Titans when he scored 481 runs at a strike rate of 142.73 in their title-winning campaign. He was retained by the GT for the 2023 season and as well as the latest 2024 IPL season.

Miller was one of the two players retained by the Punjab franchise ahead of the 2014 IPL auction. The South African fetched 12.5 crore, making him the most expensive overseas player to be retained along with Shane Watson at that point.

Miller was released by the franchise ahead of the 2018 IPL auction, but surprisingly they purchased him in the mega auction with the help of Right to Match (RTM). Miller moved to Rajasthan Royals in 2020 for his base price of INR 75 lakh. In the IPL 2022 mega auction, the star South African batter was sold to Gujarat Titans for INR 3 crores and he was retained by the franchise in the following year.
