KC Cariappa, the spinner from Karnataka was snapped up by the Kolkata Knight Riders for 2.4 crores from his base price of 10 lakhs. It was considered as a mystery to the fans as Cariappa had not played a single first-class match before being bought by the KKR.

He was obtained by KKR after he impressed the likes of Jacques Kallis and Gautam Gambhir during the practice session of Champions League. It was a dream come true for the young leg-spinner.

However, he got only a single chance to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders and was bought by the Kings XI Punjab during the 2016 IPL auction for 80 lakhs. Lack of varieties in his bowling made him warm the bench for the most part of the season.

He has played a total of 10 matches in the IPL where he has taken only 8 wickets at a very high economy of 9.23. This was not ideal for an uncapped player and the team replaced him with other spinners like Rahul Tewatia.

He found no bidders for him as he lacked variations. Also, he did not prove to be a wicket-taker and hence was dropped by the team.
