Tare hit a six off Faulkner to seal the match for Mumbai

Due to the elections in India, the first leg of the tournament was held in UAE. Mumbai looked down and out in the UAE leg and lost all five matches played there.

They came down to India and had to win all the games if they have to qualify for playoffs.

Mumbai Indians entered their last match of league phase at the Wankhede with a win-win situation.

Rajasthan Royals batted first which meant that Mumbai had to chase the target in 14.3 overs. Batting first, Rajasthan Royals scored 189 for four in their allotted 20 overs.

Mumbai Indians shakily started their chase before Corey Anderson wrecked the havoc in Rajasthan's camp.

He scored an unbeaten 95 off 44 balls to help Mumbai chase the target. Faulkner had eight runs to defend off two balls, but Ambati Rayudu in the long-of region cleared a full toss. The equation came to 2 from 1 ball for Mumbai based franchise but lost a wicket in-form of a run-out while running for the second run.

Rayudu fell to his knees, and the Royals celebrated.

There was a twist in the tale. Mumbai could qualify for a playoff spot if they manage to score a boundary in the next ball.

Aditya Tare was on strike and smashed Faulkner's final delivery for a six. Mumbai entered playoffs due to the late heroics of Tare.

Anderson bagged Man of the Match for his clinical performance with his bat.
