The motto of the IPL is 'Where talent meets opportunity'. Over the course of 10 years, several Indian youngsters have benefited from the IPL. They have used it as a great platform to gain recognition all over the world.

However, the scope has not been restricted only to Indian players. Several overseas players have made their mark in the IPL before getting an international call-up. Good performances of these overseas cricketers have been noted by their selectors and as a result, these players found a place in their international sides.

Let us take a look at 4 players for whom IPL proved to be the stepping stone to international cricket.

Mitchell Marsh was just 18 years of age when he made his IPL debut in 2010.

Mitchell Marsh arrived on the IPL arena as a budding 18-year-old boy after making his debut in the third season of the IPL in 2010 for the Deccan Chargers.

His performances in the IPL threw him in the hunt for his Australian selection. In 20 matches in the IPL, Marsh has picked up 20 wickets at an economy rate of 7.89. After the exit of the Deccan Chargers from the league, Marsh went on to play for both the Pune-based franchises i.e. Pune Warriors India and the Rising Pune Supergiants.

He earned his international call-up in October 2011, after spending a couple of years in the IPL. After 6 years in international cricket, Mitchell Marsh has gone to establish himself in Australian team as a quality all-rounder, thanks to the Indian Premier League!

#3 Chris Morris

Chris Morris has represented the Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils in the IPL.
Chris Morris was retained by the Delhi Daredevils for IPL 2018.

The tall, lanky fast bowling all-rounder made his first IPL appearance in 2013 for the Chennai Super Kings and has made giant strides in cricket since then.

Morris made his international debut in November 2012, but his career took off only after spending a couple of years in the IPL. The stint with the Delhi Daredevils metamorphosed him from an ordinary all-rounder to a devastating hitter and helped him to cement his place in South Africa's limited-overs team.

Morris had played for the Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Daredevils in the IPL. In 48 matches, he has picked 53 wickets and scored 439 runs at a strike rate of 165.

#2 Shaun Marsh

Shaun Marsh is the only overseas player to play all 10 seasons for the same franchise.

The Western Australian batsman was the winner of the Orange Cap in the 2008 edition of the IPL amassing 616 runs in the season. That season helped him gain a place in the Australian team on their tour to the West Indies later that year.

Shaun Marsh is the only foreign player to play for the same franchise in all 10 editions of the IPL (Kings XI Punjab). He has been the backbone of the Kings XI Punjab batting line-up during his stint with them. In 71 matches for the Kings XI, he has scored 2477 runs at an average of 40 and a strike rate of 133.

It was the Indian Premier league that paved the way for Shaun Marsh into international cricket. His long association with the Kings XI Punjab ended in 2018 after the franchise did not retain him and let him go unsold at the auction.

#1 Glenn Maxwell

Maxwell set the IPL-7 on fire after some blistering knocks.

The 'Big Show' was the find of IPL 7. We all remember Maxwell for smashing every opposition during the UAE leg of that particular edition of the IPL.

However, his IPL debut came for the Delhi Daredevils in 2012. Maxwell earned a maiden national call-up in August 2012 after playing one season in the IPL. In the following edition, he was picked up by the Mumbai Indians for a whopping $1 million but warmed the benches for most parts.

His first break in the IPL came for the Kings XI in 2014 which helped him to cement his place in the Australian side. It is fair to say that IPL proved to be a huge platform for Maxwell in his making as an international cricketer.
