5 Australian stars who played in the IPL before making their international debut

One decade of IPL cricket has come and gone and the tournament has done miracles for cricketers, especially youngsters. So far we have seen dozens of Indians getting the opportunity at the highest level after their performances in the marquee league. The league gives many players the opportunity to make money and display their talents.

However, the cash-rich league is incomplete without the presence of foreign players. A total of 282 overseas players are participating in the auction this year, out of which 58 are from Australia itself, the highest from any nation.

Not only Indians, some Aussies have also earned national call-ups based on their performances in the IPL. Here is a look at five of them:

#5 Chris Lynn

Chris Lynn has been the centre of attention in T20 cricket for the past few years. The 27-year-old showcased his talent while playing for Brisbane Heat in the BBL.

Despite making his IPL debut way back in 2012 for the Deccan Chargers, he came into the limelight only when he opened for KKR, giving them flying starts along with Sunil Narine in 2017, scoring 295 runs in 7 games.

#4 Mitchell Marsh

Marsh made his IPL debut way back in 2010

The batting all-rounder who plays for Perth Scorchers in the BBL, Mitchell Marsh has represented Australia in all three forms of cricket. He is a middle-order batsman with the capability of scoring quickly in the slog overs. In addition to that, he can also bowl his full quota of overs.

The 26-year-old made his IPL debut in 2010 for the Deccan Chargers but hasn't tasted a lot of success yet, unlike his brother Shaun.

#3 James Faulkner

Faulkner gained recognition when he played for the Rahul Dravid-led Rajasthan Royals side

James Faulkner became a household name only when he joined the Rajasthan Royals in the 2013 edition of the IPL, two years after he made his debut for the Pune Warriors India.

Faulkner played all the matches in the 2013 season. The Tasmanian all-rounder missed out on the Purple Cap by a margin of four wickets, falling just short of Dwayne Bravo's 32 wickets. His career-best bowling figures of 5\16 came against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the same season.

#2 Aaron Finch

Finch has represented six different franchises in eight years

The top-order batsman from Victoria has experienced many crests and troughs in his IPL career. He hasn't been as consistent as a player of his caliber would've liked though and perhaps that's the reason why he didn't stick around with one franchise for too long.

The 31-year-old amassed over 400 runs only once, when he played for Pune Warriors India in 2013. For the last two seasons, he played for Gujarat Lions, scoring 300+ runs in both the editions.

#1 Shaun Marsh

Currently, he is the leading run-scorer for KXIP

The left-handed batsman was the first ever Orange Cap winner in the IPL, scoring 616 runs at a staggering average of 68.44 in the first edition of the tournament for Kings XI Punjab. He is currently the leading run scorer for KXIP.

He is one of only a handful of cricketers to have represented the same team throughout the 10 seasons of the competition. Virat Kohli (RCB) and Harbhajan Singh (MI) are the others.
