5 memorable moments from KKR vs RPS that don't fade away

george bailey

After some game days that consisted of incredibly tight and marginal affairs, we have been taken back to the land of one-sided games as Kolkata Knight Riders completely destroyed Rising Pune Supergiants with their spirited performance.

It seems like Kolkata will one of the teams that will qualify for the play-offs as this win puts them ever so close to their first target—leaving worried faces in the Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Lions camp.

After batting first, Pune could reach only 103 in the 17.4 that they could bat. They were interrupted by rain and a revised score of 66 was put on board for Kolkata Knight Riders to chase.

In this rain-affected match, there were plenty of memorable moments that don't fade away, quite like the Axe Signature range of body perfumes. Here are 5 of the best:

George Bailey gets going

The players that have been drafted midway in this tournament haven’t really got going—except, of course, in the last game day. After Chris Jordan finally ended his horrible run of form, George Bailley also joined the part—albeit not in as grand a way as the Englishman.

In a game where every other batsmen in his team failed to make an impact, he brought some respite with a carefully treaded 27-ball 33.

However, despite getting the good start, he couldn’t make it count—and neither could his team-mate as their slow run rate cost them big time in the end.

MS Dhoni’s absurd knock

ms dhoni

When MS Dhoni came into the scenario, he was the most aggressive batsman in the world. He could smack any ball out of the park and was loved by everyone precisely because of this ability to fire up the game.

That Dhoni, however, has been long gone.

The Dhoni we get these days finds it really hard to hit the ball on a consistent basis in every game. And nothing can serve as a better example as his innings against Kolkata. In a highly unusual innings, he scored 8 runs after playing 22 balls—not even in Tests does one play like that these days.

Piyush’s economic spell

piyush chawla

Piyush Chawla will always be remembered as the baby-faced leggie who got the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar in an India Blue v India Red game. A lot was expected from him ever since that memorable day. He, however, couldn’t live up to the billing.

While hype has its benefits, it does more harm than good as it amounts pressure on the said youngster. Right now, however, there is no hype surrounding him—and it is precisely why he is going through a good patch of form.

His economic spell against RPSG was one of the reasons why they batted as if they were choked the whole game. In his spell of 4 overs, he conceded 21 runs and picked up 2 wickets to complete a good performance.

Pathan blaze

yusuf pathan

Yusuf Pathan is one of those players who struggle for form on a consistent basis, but when they hit optimum level, they win you games by themselves. No target is big for players like these at the top of their game—just ask Kieron Pollard.

And Yusuf Pathan is going through that patch of his life where everything he hits, turns to boundaries. With the rain cutting short the match, Pathan was promoted up the order to finish the game as quickly as he could.

That is what he did as he smashed his way to a 18-ball 37 and gave Pune no chance at all to have a say in the game.

The Ashwins hammering

ashwin

Before the tournament began, Pune were hopeful and hyped up about their prospects in the competition. After all, they had MS Dhoni as their captain and Ravi Ashwin as their prime spinner. They also had another spinner—Murugan Ashwin.

M. Ashwin was already a highly-rated youngster who proved his talent in the local circuit. Hence, having both Ashwins gave fans a lot of hope, but it all went in vain as none of them could really drag their team out of the quagmire they were in.

The two bowled a combined 3 overs and conceded 43 runs in the process—effectively ending RPSG’s hope of defending a rain-affected target of 66 runs in just 5 overs.
