Kohli in action against Australia

India toured Australia in 2016 for a 5-match ODI series. Though India lost the series 1-4 in a very high-scoring series, this series will be remembered for Virat Kohli's heroics throughout the series. He did all he could do to win it for India but the home team was too much to handle for India.

In the first ODI of the series, India won the toss and chose to bat first. India lost its opener Dhawan for just 9 runs off 22 balls. Kohli then stitched a 207-run partnership with Rohit Sharma who exploded for 171* off 163 and remained unbeaten. Kohli made 91 off 97 balls and got out in the 45th over to Faulkner.

Australia, in return, lost its openers in quick succession and were struggling at 21-2. Then, Steve Smith and George Bailey bailed them out with a huge partnership of 242 runs and Australia reached home comfortably. Steve Smith was adjudged the man of the match for his 149 off 135.
