IPL 2018 Auction: 5 Uncapped players to watch out for

The Indian Premier League is a door that takes youngsters on their merry way, their way to glory which they can find in the cash-rich league. Youngsters want to do their best in the league to grab the spotlight. A few players have cashed on their opportunities to reach the top level as well, players such as Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah earned a name for themselves during their stint for the Mumbai Indians which later helped them to earn a national call-up. Let us take a look at five uncapped players who can earn plenty in the auction.

#5 Prithvi Shaw

India's U19 captain, the recent batting prodigy Prithvi Shaw will be a player to watch out for in the IPL auction this year. The opener is the youngest player to score five centuries in India's domestic four-day tournament. He scored a gutsy 94 in India's opening game of the under 19 World Cup which is being held in New Zealand. In the previous edition of the tournament, Shaw was unsold in the auction. Prithvi Shaw has scored 961 runs in Ranji Trophy with an average of 56.52. The in-form youngster has also managed to score 151 runs in the two innings at the under 19 World Cup. Things are expected to be different for the young man, Shaw has set his base price at ₹20 lakhs. The 18-year-old will be hoping to find a franchise for himself.

#4 D'Arcy Short

Australia's D'Arcy Short has been a new find for Australian cricket. The left-handed Short went past Shaun Marsh to become the leading run scorer in a single edition of the Big Bash League. His ability to strike the ball at the top of the order provides a quick start for the team. Short has dominated this season of the BBL and has taken the Hobart Hurricanes into the top four. The 27-year-old is a player to watch out for in this year's IPL auction. The explosive left-hander can also roll his arm over for a couple of overs, his spin can be beneficial in Indian conditions which favour the spinners. Short has scored 702 runs in T20s with an average of 41.29 and has also picked up six wickets.

#3 Jofra Archer

A wonderful find from the Big Bash League, Jofra Archer is one of the few bowlers who can bowl at a fair pace and is athletic in the field. Archer is an all-rounder who can be handy with the willow. His athleticism in the field has been witnessed in the BBL where he inflicted a brilliant runout and took a scintillating catch in his follow through. Archer has picked 44 wickets in 36 T20s with a bowling average of 22.77 with an economy of 7.81. Franchises will look to procure The West Indian who can turn any game around. Kolkata Knight Riders may bid for him considering the relaid green wicket at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

#2 Basil Thampi

Death overs specialist Basil Thampi is a contender for franchises looking to get an Indian bowler who can bowl at the death. Franchises want to invest in overseas batsman who can whack the ball out of the park, they look to procure Indian bowlers and it is tough to find Indian bowlers who can bowl at the death. Basil Thampi is a bowler who can bowl six yorkers in an over. Thampi has played 12 games and has picked up 11 wickets, he'll be looking to better his stats in this year's tournament. In the previous edition, Thampi was procured by the Gujarat Lions for ₹85 lakhs, the young pacer will be hoping to fetch more than this in this year's auction as a more established bowler.

The most valuable uncapped player at the moment, Krunal Pandya has proved his worth in the previous two editions of the Indian Premier League. The Mumbai Indians did not retain the all-rounder but a few cricket experts reckon that the franchise will use the right to match card on him. Krunal has scored 480 runs in the IPL with an average 36.92 which is considered to be wonderful for a batsman who bats in the lower middle order. He has scalped 16 wickets with an economy of 7.15 which is by far a good economy in T20 cricket.
