Corey Anderson's finger injury rules him out of IPL 2015

Corey Anderson

In what is a big blow for the Mumbai Indians, star all-rounder Corey Anderson has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season owing to a fractured finger. Anderson missed Mumbai’s last game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) due to the injury and will now be heading back to New Zealand to undergo further assessment on the extent of his injury.

The 24-year-old had scored 114 runs at an average of 38 and a strike-rate of 117.52 so far this season, but will, unfortunately, take no further part in this year’s campaign. He is currently the 3rd highest run-scorer for Mumbai this season, only behind Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard.

With Australian and Mumbai Indians opener Aaron Finch also having been ruled out for the rest of the season, the Rohit-led franchise will certainly be in the hunt for some suitable replacements who can fill their void in the imminent future.

While it is too soon to speculate on the amount of time that Anderson will be out of action for, his participation for New Zealand’s upcoming tour to England, which includes two Tests, five ODIs and a solitary T20I, is likely to be touch-and-go. With Adam Milne also having been ruled out of the IPL due to an injury, one can only hope for the sake of New Zealand that the duo recover as quickly as possible as they will have to play a critical role for the Black Caps to have any success in what is certainly going to be a challenging series.
