Facing the third ball of the over, Gaikwad completed the hat-trick of sixes by smashing another one over the bowler's head for a maximum. CSK accumulated 20 runs from the particular over.

With their plain-sailing victory, Chennai Super Kings became only the second franchise after the Gujarat Titans (GT) to successfully qualify for the playoffs. Remarkably, this is the 12th time CSK has progressed from the group stages of an IPL season.

With eight wins and five losses, CSK ended their group campaign on 17 points. Their one clash against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ended in a no-result, with both teams sharing a point each. It is still unclear if CSK will play in Qualifier 1 or 2.
