The national selectors announced the India team vs South Africa 2019 and surprised a few by not picking veteran wicket-keeper and former captain MS Dhoni. Dhoni had taken a tour off after the World Cup 2019 to join the Indian Army. However, chief selector MSK Prasad said that the break does not affect anything as the selectors had already spoken to Dhoni about their plans for the future.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who had been rested for the India tour to West Indies has been picked and instead, speedster Jasprit Bumrah has been given a break. Virat Kohli mentioned that the management needs to keep Bumrah fit as long as the World Test Championship goes on.
Another seamer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, has been reported to be unavailable due to some sickness. Among bowlers who miss out, there are two more notable names, the spin duo Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.
Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar, Rahul Chahar and Navdeep Saini, who played an important part in the series in the West Indies, have kept themselves in the Indian team v South Africa team.
Middle order batsmen Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, all-rounder Krunal Pandya have another opportunity to cement their place in India’s T20I squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup next year.
