IPL 2016: Highest/Most Run-Scorers, Leading Wicket-Takers after RCB vs GL & KKR vs RPS

In the first game on Saturday, May 14^th, 2016, Royal Challengers Bangalore played Gujarat Lions in the first game. Kolkata Knight Riders are scheduled to play Rising Pune Supergiants in the second game. Gujarat Lions wanted a win to cement their position in the playoffs. While Royal Challengers Bangalore wanted a win to push their fight for the playoffs.

In the second match, KKR wanted a win for the same reason as GL. Rising Pune Supergiants has an outside chance to qualify for the playoffs. Pune had to give their all in order to stand a chance.

Match one – Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Gujarat Lions

Gujarat Lions won the toss and elected to field first.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Playing XI:

Dwayne Smith, Brendon McCullum (C), A Nath, Dinesh Karthik (WK), Aaron Finch, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Praveen Kumar, Dhawal Kulkarni, Shivil Kaushik, P Tambe.

Suresh Raina missed his first IPL game.

Royal Challengers Bangalore lost Chris Gayle early. However, that made no difference at all as AB de Villiers came in next and put up a brilliant partnership with Virat Kohli. They put 229 runs for the second wicket with both the batsmen scoring centuries.

These both players destroyed the Gujarat Lions’ bowling as everyone was smashed all over the park with Ravindra Jadeja standing out as the best amongst the rest.

Chasing a daunting 249, GL lost Dwayne Smith early. Gujarat Lions just crumbled under the pressure. They lost wickets at regular intervals. Aaron Finch was the highest run-scorer with 37 runs.

Yuzvendra Chahal had a great game today as the leg-spinner picked up three wickets. Late to the party, but Chris Jordan finally arrived and in sensational fashion. The Englishman picked up four wickets for just eleven runs as RCB won the match by 144 runs.

Match two – Kolkata Knight Riders vs Rising Pune Supergiants

Rising Pune Supergiants won the toss and surprisingly chose to bat first.

Dhoni said, "We will bat first. It looks like a good pitch to bat first, as it might get slow later on. There are a couple of changes. The Toss is something that's not in our control. This gives us the opportunity to give other players a chance to play."

Kolkata Knight Riders Playing XI:

Robin Uthappa(WK), Gautam Gambhir(C), Manish Pandey, Suryakumar Yadav, Shakib Al Hasan, Yusuf Pathan, Andre Russell, Piyush Chawla, Morne Morkel, Ankit Rajpoot, Sunil Narine.

Rising Pune Supergiants Playing XI:

Ajinkya Rahane, Usman Khawaja, George Bailey, Saurabh Tiwary, MS Dhoni(C & WK), Thisara Perera, Irfan Pathan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Murugan Ashwin, Adam Zampa, Ashoke Dinda.

Irfan Pathan finally got a game for RPS.

Andre Russell took the crucial wicket of Rahane to set the tone. It was an ordinary display from RPS’s batsman as none of the players held their ground.

Pune lost wickets at regular intervals as KKR’s spinners took their toll on the already eliminated team. Batting first didn’t appear to be a wise decision after all for Rising Pune Supergiants. Then, there was more drama as it began to rain at the Eden Gardens.

Rising Pune Supergiants were at 103 runs when the play was interrupted. The match was cut short and Kolkata Knight Riders had to chase down 66 runs in nine overs when play resumed.

Ravichandran Ashwin bowled the first over and literally spun the game on its head as he dismissed Uthappa and Gambhir in the same over.

However, the joy was only momentary as Yusuf Pathan came in next and smashed Pune’s bowlers all over the park to make a mockery of the target. He scored an unbeaten 37 runs in just 18 balls as Kolkata Knight Riders cruised to an easy victory over Rising Pune Supergiants.

Leading run scorers:

Virat Kohli leads the run-scorers chart with 667 runs. AB de Villiers fired himself to the second spot with 538 runs. Gautam Gambhir stays at number six.
