The SRH's first participation in the IPL came in the 2013 edition where they made the Playoffs in the captaincy of Kumar Sangakkara during the initial stages of the competition and Cameron White in the latter half.

In 2014, the team fared poorly, finishing sixth in the table with Shikhar Dhawan at the helm and Darren Sammy serving as his deputy.

However, ahead of the 2015 edition, the management decided to appoint David Warner as the captain of the franchise and what a decision it proved to be.

In two out of three editions, Warner led the team into the Playoffs, winning the title in the 2016 edition.

One of the keys to Warner's leadership was the manner in which he performed with the bat and then rubbed off that performance into the rest of the side.

Kane Williamson, an international captain his own right, told Sportskeeda last year about the left-hander's ability to lead from the front and play aggressive knocks consistently was something the others cherished to do.

With just 10 days to go for the team's first match in the competition, they will need to find someone who can bring the leadership qualities that Warner did and have a similar impact on the rest of the troops in the franchise.
